Pregnancy and Protein

I had to take a 24 hour urine for my OBGYN. I have 300 protein and was diagnosed with mild pre-eclampsia. I took an at home protein test and it showed 30t. Now when I took the test it wasn't an early morning one and I plan to take one tomorrow morning. At what point should I be really worried? My Bp has been ok now that I am on Bp meds. I'm always scared it will get too high. I am currently 27 weeks.

What can I do next?

Hey girl - I have had 3 pregnancies and have had pre-eclampsia each time, with the last one showing protein in my urine at 19 weeks. You should definitely be worried, and get as much rest as you possibly can (if your doctor has not put you on bed rest, s/he really should) - your BP will be lower when you are laying down. I had a home BP monitor that I used a few times during the day with my last pregnancy, and was also on BP meds, which did help the blood pressure, but also made me feel terrible :( you want to do everything you can to keep that BP down and keep that baby in there longer. If you keep showing protein at 300+, they will decide to deliver you early, because with it at that level you are at very high risk for seizures and major damage to your organs. I was put on partial bed rest with my last one at 19 weeks & full bed rest at 31 weeks, she was delivered at 37 weeks, but my high blood pressure resulted in low amniotic fluid for months, and she had a lot of trouble breathing and had to stay in the nicu for 10 days - it was not fun at all (she is doing great now, but wow that was a rough experience). Good luck - get lots of rest - I hope it works out well for you and your precious little one!

sending lots of hugs,
~T.

I think as long as you can control the BP you should be ok. But if you have questions, call the Dr.

Good luck!

In my opinion, you should be more concerned with taking a BP meds while you are pregnant rather than high BP.
If you want to lower your BP breathe. 5 times a day take 5 mins to breathe.
breathe in for a count of 5, hold it for 5 then out for 5.
Do this 5 times, 5 times a day.
Then in a couple of days, up it to 6 second breaths.
Then a couple of days later up it to 8 seconds etc.
And then by months end you should be up to 20 secs in, hold for 20 and out for 20, it is called the ultimate breath.
Guaranteed to lower your BP WITHOUT drugs.
Try it, no more worries.

Look at this site: http://www.blueribbonbaby.org/ and alter your nutrition. Pre-e is a symptom of a blood volume that has not expanded properly. By taking BP meds you are just masking the symptoms, increase your protein intake and give your body/baby the building blocks you need to adequately grow.
many blessings,

Guess I would wonder why you are asking nonmedical people medical questions. Do you not get answers from your OB and staff? Or are you afraid to talk to them? They are the best source for ANY questions you have during your pregnancy. As a healthcare professional and former OB nurse, ASK QUESTIONS! If you get the run-around, make an appointment and take a list of questions with you. Especially if you are upfront with your OB and staff, you will receive the information you need. This is a scary time for anyone, especially if you are having problems. Keep calm, rest, follow any directions you receive from your OB and things will turn out fine. You want this little person to stay where it is, as long as possible. Yes, premature delivery is a possibility. With good treatment and your cooperation, that little person will stay put!
