Pregnancy & ACNE

I am now 12 weeks and 6 days pregnant. This is extremely embarrassing but I think I have pregnancy related acne and the acne is not on my face. The acne is on my butt. It started a month ago. It is deep inflamed acne and it hurts to sit. Here is the real problem even though I'm leaving the acne alone they are leaving deep scars.

Is it normal to have acne on the butt that produces bad scarring?

What can I do to fix this issue with out harming the baby?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

What can I do next?

My acne wasn't as far down, but I had acne on my back so back that my husband fondly referred to me as "lizard back" behind closed doors. Sweet, huh?

My OB said there wasn't much we could do, nightly lotion rubs helped relieve the itch, much to my hubbie's dismay. Since it wasn't painful, I just lived with it. I would call the OB office and have it looked at - it could very possibly be something treatable, and wouldn't you like to be able to sit at some point in your pregnancy? ;)

Best of luck to you!

Hi J., Gosh, I am so sorry that you are experiencing this problem. I, personally, have never heard of having acne on your butt, that doesn't mean that lots of other folks have. The only recommendation that comes to mind is Shaklee's Acne Clarifying Complex which is all-natural so it should be fine for your baby. Yes, I am a Shaklee distributor so that's how I know about it. I have adult customers who use it for their faces but see no reason why you couldn't use it on your butt. Feel free to check it out at my website www.emilytaft.com Just put acne clarifying complex (or simply acne) in the search box at the top right, and it should come up. I hope this helps. Good luck! E. Congrats on the baby! You should call you OB or Primary and ask them - during pregnancy anything goes as far as hormones, skin, etc!

As embarrassing as this is, he'll never see it here, so here goes...
My husband started getting bad acne on his butt. It was yucky, red and he claimed it was painful.
Luckily my mother is a nurse and she was able to discuss this with one of the doctors without my husband having to go in! (There is no way he would have!) The doctor said that this type of acne can actually be caused by a virus or from bacteria picked up on a toilet seat. Ewww. He may have been exposed in a public place.
He recommended that my husband keep his bum very clean, use anti-bacterial wipes on the toilet seat to avoid giving it to the rest of us, and to apply a topical anti-acne cream to dry it out and heal it up.
Of course you need to avoid most acne medicines, but I do know that tea tree oil can be excellent for acne treatment and you can use it safely now during pregnancy.
I hope this helps, and we won't tell my poor husband that I shared this! :-)

Congrats on the pregnancy! I also had problems with acne while I was pregnant, mostly on my upper back and shoulders, but once in a while I would get one on my butt that would be very deep and painfull; I always had very clear skin prior to pregnancy, and thankfully now that my daughter is 7 months I'm back to nice clear skin...everywhere on my body.
What I noticed helped was cleaning the area twice a day with soap and water using a puff to help really deep clean and then applying witch hazel using a cottonball; let air dry before putting your clothes back on. I was preggers during the hot summer months so I switched from a thong to cotton boy shorts for painties to help absorb excess sweat. Also remember to drink plenty of water too.

Hi J.,

Pregnancy hormones can be a nightmare!! Sometimes during your second trimester, the acne starts to go away. If not, I have some safe products (plant and botanically based) that can help clear up the acne in both areas (one is specifically for the face and the other is for your body). The products contain no chemicals, fragrances or dyes and are completely safe for you and for your baby. Please either email or call me (____@____.com, ###-###-####) and I would be happy to tell you more about them.

YES this is completely normal. Try cutting out dairy and wheat for a while to see if that helps, it always did with me. Also too much sugar could be making the problem worse as well. Take Evening Primrose oil (you can also take this in a formula with fish oil for even better results) it helps incredibly with acne! Good luck
