I am looking for information, opinions and recommendations on pre-schools in the area, public or private. Also, how early do you need to enroll them? This is my first time ever having to enroll my twins in school and have no clue. Please help. Thanks moms.

Hi S.,
Des Plaines has a terrific preschool program called S.P.A.R.K. (Special Programs Arranged Regarding Kids) at Terrace School in Des Plaines. It is located just off of Thacker (Dempster) on Westgate Rd. west of Wolf Rd. and Thacker. They have mini-school starting at ages 2 1/2 or 3, then regular preschool and junior kindergarten for 4-5 year olds. My friends and I have all had our kids go there and have been extremely pleased with the program. Their number for information is ###-###-####. Good luck!! C.

Hi S.,
You might be able to enroll at anytime into a private school, public schools have pre-school classes too, but they tend to fill up pretty quick. I had to enroll my kids few months before school started. My boys are in public schools and I am very happy with the education they get, plus it's a less expensive.
Where do you live? I'm in Des Plaines.

Allow me to recommend Luther General Children's Daycare, too. They are very professional, will provide you with a ton of observations and advice about your children's overall development, and provide a fun and educational program. I don't know about their waiting list, but I am betting with the economic situation right now, that it isn't very big.

The Glenview Park district has a preschool. You just enroll through the Park District. I think they even have 2.5 year old programs all the way through 4/5 years and are pretty reasonably priced. Also, Glenbrook South High School has Titan Tot preschool (3-5 years). The high school juniors and seniors serve as assistants in the room for credit in child development, so there are lots of helpers. Here's a link:

Hi S.,

I have actually worked for both the Lutheran General Daycare and I currently work for, and had my children attend the Spark Program in Des Plaines. Both are very professional wonderful places. If you need Daycare (full days, then definitely check out both LGHCDC and SPARK. If you want a partial day you should look at SPARK. Spark offers both options, is NAEYC accreditited and prepares the children for a transition to the public schools. Good luck!
