dear Mommas,
We live in a sunny climate. When my 3 1/2 goes outside to play at his pre-school at 1100 am, the sunblock I applied in the morning has been wiped off ....:) ....

Is it appropriate to ask the pre-school teachers to reapply the sunblock? There are 18 children and 3 adults....

Yes...he wears a hat...but when the sunblock is wiped off mostly around his mouth and chin area from eating and wiping his face. the hat does not protect that area, and it is often red...

Thank you.
Jilly

So What Happened?

1. I asked. The teachers said yes gladly.
2. Other mothers asked.
3. Now they put on sublock for all of the kids before they go out.
Thank you for all of your support!!!!

I use banana boat baby sunblock 50 spray. This dries and stays on all day. (I spray on my hands then apply to face and neck and exposed areas.

Sure, why not?...at my daughter's preschool/child care, we had to sign a permission form to allow them to apply sunscreen and send them with their own sunscreen from home. I would just let them know what you are noticing and see what they can do. Although I have to admit, I've never seen sunscreen get wiped off so easily - are you using the sweatproof/waterproof stuff?

When DD was in daycare, I signed a form permitting them to use the sunscreen I provided. I put it on her in the AM and they reapplied later if necessary. I would ask them about it and provide the sunscreen you use for them. If he is routinely getting burned, that becomes a health issue.

Heck yes, here in Austin all children know they will have sun block on..

Just remind them that when he has his mouth or face wipes after meals they may need to add some more sun screen
.

I know That they sweat so much the teachers do many time wipe them down when they come inside.

It is also very humid here, so we do pay attention to how much time they are out in the bright sun light.

Talk to the teachers. In child care we are not allowed to use any lotion or other substance on a child without a note. Sometimes they even require a doc's note. So many children have developed allergies and they worry that if a child has an adverse reaction the parent may sue them. I know it probably has happened somewhere....

So if they are willing then you should supply the sunscreen that you already use so you know he isn't allergic to it.

Yes...my son's last two schools asked us to sign a medical release form to allow them to apply sunblock. One school provided it and applied it before outside play time and the second school asked us to be sure to fill out the form and bring in some of our own for our child. They should have no issues doing this.

Our daycare required a bottle each summer so they could reapply before going outside. We did have to sign a med form for it.

Our daycare will but you need to provide it and sign the medical form. I send in the sunscreen wipes - they are more expensive but much easier for the teachers.

Good luck! C.
