I am 33 weeks pregnant with twins and just found out I have pre-eclampsia. I am on bedrest until I meet with the high risk doctor. Can anyone give me some words of wisdom. Can I still deliver vaginally. It is so hard not being able to do anything, I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. We are always on the go. What was your story and how did you get through it? I also planned on working until I went in to deliver.

What can I do next?

My aunt delivered her son vaginally with pre-eclampsia, although she was induced 6 weeks early. Congrats that you've made it to 33 weeks!

Advice: Follow the doc's orders and STAY IN BED; get up to go the bathroom and that's it. Seriously.

Listen to your doctor. You would be surprised what the five year old is
capable of. Let him help. He will love it. Pre-eclampsia is not something
you want to fool with. Even the three year old can do things to help you.
You do not have much longer to go. Good luck.

I had pre-eclampsia and was induced (it was after my due date so I was lucky). I had a vaginal delivery with the help of my nurse-midwife--it was first delivery so I had nothing to compare it to, but after my second delivery I realized the induction really wasn't bad at all--I did both unmedicated--and both really hurt :). My blood pressure stayed high for a few months afterwards but eventually returned to its normal level. Listen to your doctor, but also look into the "Brewer's Diet." I did it the 2nd time around and it really helped my swelling and blood pressure. Good luck!

I had it with my first born 7 years ago. I was induced and delivered vaginally. Yes, it is a very serious condition. You will most like be induced soon. If not, I would request to be immediately!

I had PE with my first and it is very serious. Don't be naive and think that the horrible complications won't happen with you. Stay in bed, monitor your blood pressure, and do what the dr. tells you. You will probably be better off delivering soon. I ended up with full eclampisa, seizures due to the very high BP. I will say that it was not managed appropriately by my dr. and I was not educated enough to know better. Good Luck and keep us posted.

You only have a few weeks left!!! You should talk to friends and family now, and see who can take your 3 year old especially, and the 5 year old when needed just so you wont be worried about them getting into things and you wont be tempted to get up too much. This is the time to call in favors and ask church friends, school moms, and neighbors to stand up and be counted and help. You need to take care of you for a few more weeks so the twins have the best chance of coming out when they should. My daughter has type 1 diabetes and also had pre-eclampsia. Now granted, with the diabetes it is a way bigger deal so her case was different from yours. She had to spend nearly 4 weeks in the hospital, hooked to IVs and being monitored constantly. When her kidneys showed signs of shutting down,(because of high bp) it became more important to get the baby out early so she was induced. Things went great for several hours of labor and she was pushing sooner than we expected and then just sorta got stuck.. It turns out she is just too small in the pelvic area and babys head was not going to fit, so she did end up with a c-section. If she had been built bigger the baby would have fit, and she would have had a vaginal birth with very little problem. You have delivered 2 already so you know there isnt that trouble but twins do come with their own set of complications. Sometimes one will be turned wrong and sometimes the Dr can turn them, sometimes not. Many moms deliver twins just fine, others need the c-section. You will just have to stay in bed, stay calm, read, and watch nice tv, and sleep and dream about the fun it will be to have a nice family in the next years, and let the babys cook long enough. Then take the delivery what ever way it comes and be happy! It may be a couple weeks early if your bp isnt down low enough so you really just have to relax. Let others handle everything else. Your job right now is to make those babys ready for the big world. If I lived near you, Id be there playing with your other kids and cooking dinner and cleaning the toilets! I bet youve got friends who will be happy to help when you need. Hang in there!

I had pre-e and hellps with my first...I learned a lot after that and went on to have two more perfectly healthy pregnancies.

that website will shed some light on things you can do to help yourself...the first being to increase your water intake greatly--way more than you think--I had to drink 100oz/day when pregnant to keep swelling completely gone.
feel free to send me a personal message if you like.

you need to relax..you want to give the twins as long as possible. you need to listen to the doctor. most times you will not go to forty weeks with the twins. the more you dont listen then the more of a chance they could be taken early due to pre-eclampsia. enjoy your piece and quiet because you will have your hands full with the twins and the two younger ones. Sometimes, you can deliver vaginally pending that both the twins are in the correct position. if one of the twins is not thriving or your pre-eclampsia worsens then they could give you a c-section.
