Potty Training Methods

I used "potty training in less than a day" It is a really old book that my sister-in-law recommended to me.I absolutely loved it! My son seriously potty trained in less than a day! I intend to use it when my next one is old enough. We had 2 accidents and he took care of them himself! Great book great advice! Highly recommend it and yes, it really did work for me (I know it sounds too good to be true).

Our potty training experience wasn't too bad. I waited until my son was ready, and then he pretty much did it all by himself. I let him run around in just a shirt, and I had the potty seat in the family room where all the toys/tv were. One day he just told me that he went potty, and sure enough, the pot was full.
It took some work to keep that up, and he didn't like to go #2 as well, but I told him we could go buy underwear if he did. That did the trick! Right after he did it, we loaded into the car and went to buy big boy undies.
I'm about to start with son #2. I'll have to think about the one-day deal. Sorry, K., you'll probably go first, so I won't be able to report!

I have heard both ways on that book but am looking for some advice also. I have one mother tell me it worked wonders and she hasn't had a problem since but another said it really only started things and that it was still a very long process.

I used it and it worked like a charm. You don't need the book though, here's the basic idea as adapted from the book and shown on Dr. Phil.

I had a bunch of mothers recommend this to me. It took longer than a day to be fully trained (about a week to pee and a little longer to poop). But all in all, I highly recommend it.

I tried the "Potty Training in Less Than a Day" with my second child. It was a very intense day. You cannot have any distractions: tv, toys or other people around ALL day. If they have an accident, the child has to practice running to the potty, pull down pants, sit on potty then run back to their accident spot and do it all over again 10 times! My son was very resistant. I'm glad it worked for you though.
I have found great success with thepottytrainer.com e-book. It was worth the money I spent on it. My daughter was struggling at 3. She got it VERY quickly. It does start out as "Potty Day" with a party-like atmosphere. The key is having a timer remind you to take them. You give rewards. I spent a lot of time reading, singing, playing, etc. while they sat. I started earlier with my son. (She recommends starting right on their second birthday) He has been able to stay dry when we remind him to go. He has been training for 8 months. I cannot say he is totally done where he goes completely on his own. However, my 2-year-old niece was staying dry day and night within 3 weeks with the program. Maybe boys are harder. But it sounds like your first son did well. Good luck to you in whatever program you decide on!

I've potty trained three children, with one to go. A book I read recently is the No Cry Potty Training Book by Pantley. It has some good ideas, signs of readiness, when it doesn't seem to work, etc. I do know that every child, even within the same family, is different. So arm yourself with lots of ideas and patience, then see what works for your next child. I hope he trains before your girl comes! :-)

I really think it is all up to the child. This book is good for a starting point and can help with some ideas, but come on "Toilet training in less then a day?" Misleading title. I found that it is best to take your time and they will learn when they are ready. :)

I actaully use a different method, I allow mine to run around only in a shirt, and nothing on bottom, I use a small potty chair that I can move around so that it is always in sight of my child, and about every 1/2 hour we go sit on the potty, surprisingly once they do go potty on the toilet they start to do it on their own, once they have it somewhat figured out I put undies on them and start to move they potty chair closer to the bathroom, expect a few accidents, after about 2 days if I need to go anywhere I can I never go back to diapers or pull ups, I live way out in the country, trips to town can be very long so I carry a potty chair in my van with bags and paper towels and of course extra clothes. This has always worked for me and takes usually about a week, night time takes a little longer and that is the only time I use a pull-up. Just a thought!
