Im looking for some potty training ideas. My daughter shows all the signs that she is ready but I have been having a hard time getting her to go on her potty. She wont go in her diaper and she wont go on her potty, instead she has been going when the diaper is off. She knows when she has the urge to go she should go to her potty but she has been having a hard time going on the potty. Anyone have any unique ideas for potty training?

What can I do next?

Is she afraid of the potty? Make sure she sees you and daddy using the toilet, so she knows it's normal. Get her books and DVD's showing other children going on the potty. If she is going without a diaper watch her to see when she's getting ready to go and guide her to the potty then. Set specific intervals to sit on the potty, say every 15-20 minutes at first.

Also, since she's not going in the potty while she's bare that doesn't seem to be working so I would put her in cloth training pants (not panties yet) with plastic pants over them and tell her she's not to go in them, but in the potty. Show her how to pull them down when she needs to go. She's feel the wet in them and hopefully this will be an incentive to go in the potty, rather than on herself.

If she likes rewards like stickers try the book ~ "Big Girls Use the Potty" which comes with stickers, you can give her one each time she actually uses the potty ~

And, a good DVD that shows children and teaches them about using the potty, wiping and washing their hands through songs is "Potty Power" ~

Be positive and encouraging when she succeeds and she'll come around : )

My 3 yr old just recently trained in 2 days, and has had great success thanks to a container or miniature chocolates I bought to make a potty reward box. Each time he peed or pooped without issues, he got to choose a candy from the box. I don't know if I have a chocolate lover, or I got lucky. We are now on day 15 without an accident.

My son is in the midst of potty training too. First we let him come in the bathroom and see that mommy and daddy use the toilet too. His potty has a removable seat to be placed on the toilet, which is what he prefers because that's what mommy and daddy use. I started out by giving him a piece or two of toilet paper and showed him that it goes in the toilet and then showed him how to flush it. He LOVES flushing it, it's a reward in itself haha It took a few days to even get him to go on the potty, but I would sit there and talk to him, ran water in the sink, and even went as far as pouring some water between his legs. It was just a matter of timing. Every hour we would try and see if he would go. Then, the first time he went pee pee we made a big deal about it... clapping our hands shouting "Yaaaaay Pee Pee". It made him feel so proud of himself :) He gets a gummy bear as a reward. I read about having your child potty train their doll/stuffed animal first and then the next step is to tell them it is their turn to go potty. I would have loved to have tried this out, but my son would have just stuffed the doll/stuffed animal in his potty :/ Be consistent, but don't be pushy. Potty Training brings a whole new meaning to the word patience ;) Good Luck
