I have an 18 month old boy, who seems very interested in Potty Training. I've heard boys usually take longer, and i'm okay with that. But he will go into the bathroom, stand at the toilet and try to remove his diaper. We have a little potty, that we do sit him on a few times a day, and he "enjoys" it. I'm just wondering if there is any advice out there on things to try - or things NOT to do. Welcome to all suggestions!
thank you!

Hey there! I just potty trained my son in August (at 21 months old). I used the book Toilet Training in Less Than a Day and we (my son and I) loved it! We tried all the techniques in July for three days. Henry was getting all the steps but not putting them together, so I decided he was too young and waited a month. And the first day we tried it in August, he caught on. By naptime he had it down pat. We are now diaper free except at night time and nap time.
I loved the book, it was a quick easy read. It was written in the 1970's. Two pieces of advice: #1 - you don't need a doll that wets. They are expensive and we have a son who won't really play with dolls. So we used a teddy bear and a squirt bottle. I held the bottle behind the bear to "make the bear go potty" It worked fine.
And #2: Don't let other's discourage you! You know your son best and you don't want to miss the window of opportunity to potty train, lest you end up with a three or four year old in diapers. :)

Good luck! You can do it!

One thing is to always remain relaxed with no pressure on him. The other is, if Dad is in the picture, he can give a demonstration! Otherwise, you are going down the right track- good luck!

I found these really cool sticker like things that you can put in the bottom of the toilet and they have to aim for them. My son thought that this was hysterical and he learned how to aim. He also could not wait ti go to the bathroom so that he could try to hit the things again. Hope this helps
