We plan to start potty training (a girl--our first) in a few months and are looking for a good book to read on the subject beforehand. Any suggestions for good potty training books?

What can I do next?

The book Toilet Training in Less Than a Day is worth it's weight in gold, and yes, it worked on my second son (in less than a day). I only wish I had found it for my first one as well. Good luck!

Hi there. Just finished potty training my twin 25 month old boys. It sounds crazy, but I did it in a weekend. The guide I used was 3 Day Potty Training by Lora Jensen (3daypottytraining.com). It's a boot camp approach. I took their diapers off on Saturday morning and we've not used them or pull ups since. I would recommend it to anyone who's serious about moving past diapers. Good luck!

You really do not need a book. Just different ways others have potty trained their children. When home I just always let my daughters run around with panties and then they learned to potty on their own by going and showing. I praised them with songs and high fives. I didn't buy pull ups for home, more of an expense then anything. I just used the old fashion method. Just all depends on you and her. Good luck, it does not happen over night either.

We liked "Mommy, I have to use the Potty". You can find it on Amazon.com and it has excellent reviews, one of the reasons I bought it. It doesnt say you have to do it one certian way, but introduces a number of ways so you can find what works best for your child.

Hi M.,
There are many books with various techniques. It would be good to read ahead and get a few techniques in your head which seem to fit you both. That said, potty training last a *lot* longer if you try to schedule it. However, if you watch for 'the door to open' and then proceed, it should be a quick and easy process. Too soon, and it's easy to enter into a power struggle with your toddler. Too late, and the interest is already past. Your little one may be afraid to see her waste flushed down the toilet, as little ones have a hard time separating themselves from the things that come out of them, so avoid flushing or emptying the potty chair until she's occupied with something else. Some of the signs that she's ready: She may show more interest in your bathroom habits, or in 'big girl' panties, or be more uncomfortable wearing diapars for whatever reason, or you can definitely see a pattern or behavior leading up to her going. Even then, it would be good to casually present the opportunity before you really act on it, and see if she shows interest. That's when you roll into the training. Hope it's a pleasant process for you both!

Toilet Traning in less than a day has also been mentioned to me several times on this site. I pick it up tomorrow from the library and can't wait to get started! Good luck to you. Let us know any survival tips. :)

Hey M.!

I haven't really started potty training my son, yet. But, we do have a potty chair in the bathroom and I have some books that he really likes.

The first one is called The Potty Book For Boys (I'm sure they make one for girls, too) and it's about a cute little boy who's learning to use the potty because he can do more and have more fun if his pants stay dry. Everytime I read this book to my 22 month old son he wants to go sit on the potty. The other one I can't remember the name of and I don't have it anymore because the puppy got a hold of it. But it was about Little Grover and other "Little" Sesame Street characters.

I like these books because it's putting the idea of using the potty in my son's mind so that he'll tell me when he's ready on his own... hopefully!

I can't really recommend one book. Since I had children, I have rarely had the opportunity to read books other than chilren's stories. I would recommend that you go to your local library and borrow a book or books instead of buying one. Every child is different. You know your child. Scan through the books at the library on this subject and select a few that you think might work well for your child's personality. Good luck.
