Hi! Anyone have a recommendation for a potty training book they loved? I'm home for the summer with my 2 1/2 year old, so it seems a good time to give it a go...

Thanks!

To add on... thanks, Julia. I agree with you. But I'm looking for something for ME to read (not something to read to my son for him to learn the tricks of the trade, if that's what you meant) that will help me recognize the signs of readiness, tips on training techniques (ie: do I have him run around the backyard drinking water all day with scheduled potty attempts every 15 monutes, or go about my normal day and let him tell me when he has to go)

What can I do next?

I also recommend the e-book at www.3daypottytraining.com by Lora Jensen. My daughter was almost 3 when we did this and it was hard, but she was potty trained within the first couple of days (day and night). It is an amazing feeling when you are past those first three days. Good luck!

I liked a book by Linda Sonna, PhD. called "The Everything Potty Training Book: Professional, Reassuring Advice to Help You and Your Child Through this Challenging Time.

KL's response was nice even though Julia was rude, rude, rude. This site is to offer advice and support to other moms. You can express different opinions but just be kinder, people. Give advice not judgement. A book also cannot teach someone to be a parent but we can use them for information and as a resource.

I can email you the E-book 3 day potty training. It worked for my daughter and even if you are not sure about the 3 day thing, it has GREAT tips and tricks to help you.

I haven't read your other responses, but I found the e-book Three Day Potting Training by Lora Jensen to work fabulously. Our daughter was 28 mos. when she was potty trained in four days following her method. We have had very few accidents since (that was Dec.), even with adding a baby brother to the picture. It was $24 but I thought it was worth it! Good luck!

My daughter is the same age and she is potty training at school. She does great there all day. At home not so much. Here's what I'm going to try based on some advice I received. Let them wear underware and put plastic pants/covers over top (they said you could buy them at Kmart). Everyone who does this say they get it quicker (like 2-3 weeks) because it's not a diaper (pull ups).
I have a 15 year old boy and he potty trained super early. At 18 months he peed on his own consistantly and by 2 he was doing both on the potty. Funny how each kid is different!
Good luck.

I really liked the Potty Training in a Day by Azrin and Foxx. It's an older book, but effective methods.
Also, having the "The Potty Movie" There is a Hannah version and a Henry version. It's the only video I saw with having pee and poop in the potty. My daughter watched it, and literally went, got her potty and sat it in front of the TV and then pee'd and pooped straight away.
That being said, tlaking to other moms, It seems different movies work for different kids. If you go the Teri Crane route, I would rent several different potty movies from the library as you don't know which will connect with your son.

Good luck!

"Stress Free Potty Training" was pretty good. I also bought the "3 Day Potty Training" e-book and used some of her ideas as well. Good luck!

I went to my public library and they had a whole potty-training kit - videos, books for the parents and for the kids. We spent a whole weekend just watching and reading. We kept talking about it for a couple more weeks and then one day my daughter declared she no longer wanted to wear diapers (she was about 2 1/2). So, I think the kit was definitely helpful, to expose her to this new milestone, but I also believe your child will let you know when they are ready. I believe it will also reduce accidents and any other issues. Good luck!

Potty Train your child in one day by Teri Crane. We used it with our 33 month old daughter and it worked. Completely trained in one day using a potty party, had one accident a day for about 4-5 days, then maybe 2 accidents after that, and both of those were because we hadn't thought to put a potty in the attic and basement where she has play areas. Now she can hold it long enough to get downstairs, but in the beginning, you don't have much time between "I have to pee" and the event itself. It's been about 3 months now, and she's dry through the night, though we still use a pull up at night--just in case. We don't use pull ups for naps or in the car (but do stop about every 2 hours on long rides), and haven't had any problems. It's a great system, but your kid has to be completely ready.

Don't know if this is still available because my youngest is now 15! We had a book called "once upon a potty". There was also a video of the same book.
