Hi M.!
I just went thru the same thing with my daughter, she turned 3 in Oct. she would go to the 'potty' at school, but wanted nothing to do with it at home. we had several people suggest to us that "usually" it's the other way around (potty training usually happens at home and they don't want to go anywhere else)but since he's learning at school he's not wanting to go anywhere else. only thing you really can do is just keep asking him at home say every 30 mins or so if he needs to go, and try sitting him on the potty. you will have to be patient though cause it may take awhile (took my daughter about 6 1/2 months before she took to going anywhere, lol!) but once he goes at home for the first time and you make a good "praise" over it :D you shouldn't have any more trouble with him not going....
good luck!
L.

My daughter had similar experience with our grandson- now 5 years old.
He would not potty at home, but did at the Daycare. The reason?
He didn't want to be the "odd man out" at school with his peers. Call
it Positive Peer Pressure.
However at home he still wanted to be the baby and told our daughter so.
Finally he came around, but it took a few months.

Hang in there Mom..... it will get better. Patience is the word for now.

boys and girls are different. Boys can be inconsistant. so you need to be consistant. every hour ask him if he has to potty and put him on. Get a potty book or sing a potty song. Go to the potty with him and reward him when he does the act No candy maybe stickers. Go to the dollar store and see what great prizes he can have.

I will tell you from experience I have twins that are now 4 but when I found I was pregnant they had just turned 2 years old I was thinking oh my gosh I have got to get these guys potty trained before the new baby gets here or I am going to go broke on diapers....sooooo I tried and tried to get them to go sometimes they would do great but most of the time they had many accidents so I thought I was doing something wrong I went to my ped. and asked for some advice he said don't push it when they are ready they will do it....sooooo I waited and sure enough about 1 week after their 3 rd birthday they literally woke up one morning and were potty trained crazy I know but just hang in there and when he is ready it will happen and seriously like over night! Good luck!

2 1/2 years is generally the time the dr.s and daycares recommend, but from what I know, very few kids are ready then. If you really want to give it a try you can always play "potty games" I played "sink the cheerio" with my son. I got a stool so he could reach the big potty and wold throw a cheerio into the tiolet. He would pee into the pot trying to...you guessed it, sink the cheerio. He loved it and it got him wanting to use the potty all the time.

also I am giving away free childsafe ID kits as a community service to the moms on this site. They are just a card that holds vital info, a current photo and fingerprints of your son just in case something hapens. That way you are prepaired for the worst and can havea bit of piece of mind. Does he wear pull ups at home or at school? Always put him in "big boy underwear" and ask every hour if he has to go potty? If he does, praise him verbally. If he has an accident, just hand him some dry pants and take off the wet ones-no scolding, no eye contact, no talking. He will probably not want to put the dry pants on at first. If so, help him -NO TALKING-NO EYE CONTACT. Once he is changed start the every hour question again. Soon he will realize that he only getting your attention (praise) when he is successful. Good luck-this is not easy because we all want to talk. Miss C.

Find out what the routine is at school and try to mimick. Also - are they using real toilets at school - the tine ones? If so, are you using a potty training toilet? Try to use the real toilet - not the little seats that sit on them either. My 2 year old only wants to sit on the big toilet and once I figured out that was why he didn't want to potty - I was golden!

Also, this may sound crazy, but get an egg timer (1 hour timer that you wind up). Have your son paint it and decorate the way he wants. Explain to him that it is the majic potty bell and that when it rings we are suppose to run as fast as we can to the potty - it's a game. Set it for a few minutes the first time and let him here the bell and show him how excited you get to hear it. Take him to the potty then if he will go (don't force it the first time). Set it for an hour and when it goes off make a huge deal about it and try to race him to the bathroom. I use to race him to see who could go potty first - me or him. Even if he goes a little bit - it is okay.

The bell is for two reasons. 1) keep you on a schedule because us moms have nothing better to do than to watch the clock - right? :-) and 2) make it fun for him and get him on a schedule.

It has worked for me!

Good luck!

Just wait it out a bit longer. You can't insist too too much the metality at that age is to resist---at times-so anyway just hold off. My son who is now about to turn three May 4th has been trained fully for just about a month. Dry at night - and can hold it for a while--We tried training at 2 1/2 and it was cleaning him and the floor a lot! Eventually he got the idea that it was a mess and that babies were diapers and he was a big boy------I would say "yucky stinky baby diapers" and he started to agree. But around Christmas potty training almost stopped cause he got sick and we went out of town. So figure now that he's almost three it worked a lot easier! Good Luck- it will come.L.

My son now 3 1/2 did the same thing. Yes it was concerning at first like I was doing something wrong. But give him time and con't to encourage him he will do it. A few months after being consistent with potty at school he did also do at home.
