Potty Seat

I am thinking about potty training. I purchased a new toilet seat that has a child sized seat attached (it hinges up and down just like the lid and adult sized seat). My thought was it would eliminate the need to transition to the big potty later, plus save me having to empty a separate stool into the big potty after each use. but never having gone through this before I'd like to hear if anyone else has used a seat like this and what their thoughts are. Secondly, does anyone know of any potty books for little boys that show the child using a real potty, not the child sized stand alone kind? thanks Moms!

What can I do next?

I had on of those that could be used on the floor or the seat could be placed on the regular toilet. After a few times using as the floor model I got tired of cleaning it so I just used the seat on the big potty. This was way more convenient.

I got a book at walmart called "It's Potty Time" by Smart Kids Publishing. It even had a button to press that gave a flushing sound. Google "it's potty time books" and it will come up.

We have a seat like that and I LOVE it. I also did not want a potty chair to empty and the transition to the big potty.
I would suggest a small stool near to toilet to help promote self help skills - getting on and off the toilet by himself.
We had success with the seat and our daughter is NOT afraid of the big toilets in public. I am definitely glad we purchased the seat we did!
Sorry, I am not much help with potty training books for boys. Our problem was finding a book that showed a kid using a regular toilet and not a potty chair. Check barnes and noble (store or online) and Amazon has it so you can preview some pages form most childrens books.
Good luck with potty training!

We have one of those seats, too, but the problem we have is it makes it impossible to pee into the toilet bowl while sitting [even with the pee guard]. So I haven't been putting it on the toilet lately and my son doesn't mind...he just spreads his legs wide enough to sit on the big potty and holds himself up with his hands. Since he is sitting so far back [most of his butt fits on the back of the seat], there's no problem with getting his pee in the bowl either. He has fallen into the toilet only once and it wasn't a big deal for him.
One thing that was a big deal, however, was one time when he pooped and it splashed water back on him. It caught him off guard and scared him a little I guess, and he would not go poop on the potty for weeks after that happened.
Another issue I had was, when we would go to the bathroom and he went potty, we'd wash our hands, but he would always want to keep playing with the water in the sink or start whining to take a bath. So every time there was a big struggle to get him out of the bathroom. And he would also ask to go potty over and over again [I always took him because I never wanted to refuse to let him go potty!!!] even when he had no intention of going potty or even sitting on the toilet... just to get in there to play. THAT was the reason I decided to get a small potty chair. I still keep one in the living room so that when I suspect he is just manipulating me to get into the bathroom, I can pull it out and say "Okay, here you go, you can go potty right here" and if he truly needs to go potty, he is happy with going on that seat too. [I got him this Fisher Price "Froggy Friend Potty" chair which is similar to the Bjorn potty chairs and it is so great and only $13: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fisher-Price-Precious-Planet-Fr... ]

Try to see if you can find a video at the library or a store. Cheerio's are great targets! That's what I used......If he is ready, he'll do fine. Make sure you give out the proper praise and maybe even a treat to get this going great.

Good Luck.

Our son has been potty trained about 7 months. He never once used the traditional, on-the-floor potty seat that you have to empty and clean each time.

He preferred the cushy seat that you put on top of the normal toilet seat. Eventually, he just wanted to sit on the regular toilet seat and hold himself from falling in.

Good luck. I'd recommend doing whatever he's interested in doing to foster his interest

I am kind of hijacking this thread to ask you where y'all got your seats (the one with the adult and kid seat in one)? We have been looking for one but haven't really found one we liked.
Thanks.
