Post-partum Doula? Need Info/referrals

Have any of you (or anyone you know) ever used a post-partum doula? I'm looking for information on what they usually provide in terms of help, what the cost might be, and if anyone has someone they'd recommend. Just trying to prepare for possible c-section recovery (baby reversed his transverse position and is almost breech now - little stinker) and don't have any family able to help after this baby is born. Thanks!

I haven't used her as a doula, but Mary Ellen Gabrielsen would be great. Post-partum doula work is, I believe, her primary line of work. She served as the officiant for our wedding and I was really impressed with her warmth & caring.

That crazy baby of yours!

My friend was my doula and it was wonderful to have her there during surgery and afterward. Post partum doulas do many things, each has their own schedule and limitations, I'd interview a few to be sure you love the one you choose.

My friend doesn't do doula work anymore but I have emailed her to get you some names. I can offer to stop by with my two girls to entertain your kids or play out back while you nap with the baby, or watch the baby if you want to spend time with the bigger kids. We're just up the hill from you! :)

Hi, H.. I used a doula with both of my children and loved her! Her name is Deborah Sheldon, her business is Eastside Doula Care (www.eastsidedoulacare.com). She provides both birth and postpartum services. She's in Kirkland but travels around...we live in Seattle. She was a wonderful fit for us. I'd encourage you to check out her website. Fees are also listed there. Good luck with your little boy!!

An acquaintance of mine (friend and former co-worker of my husband) is a post-partum doula. Her name is Melinda, and her website is at http://www.babymoondoula.com/. I'm sure she could answer your questions and maybe even provide you with the services you're looking for.

I used a doula during labor but not afterwards (apart from the one follow-up visit included in her services). I know with a labor doula, you really want to have someone you're comfortable with on a personal level, so it's important to meet with several and find someone you "click" with. I'm guessing it would be similar for post-partum, so that would b my only advice. Good luck!

PALS has all the info you need on their website at http://www.pals-doulas.org/. Incidentally, I have just hired Jennifer Mendelson as my post partum doula last night
