Possible Skin Allergy to Strawberries?

I picked up my son from the babysitter's today, and when we got home I gave him his daily snack; today it was strawberries. When I was wiping his face afterwards, there was a small strip under his lower lip that was bright red. I figured it had just been stained by the strawberries.

Then during bathtime later, I tried again to wipe that area but the color didn't go away. Then I noticed the area almost looked "chapped." It's extremely cold outside right now, so I'm not sure if this is skin chapping from the cold, or a food allergy. (I may not have noticed it when I picked him up from the sitter's; that spot is hard to see as it sits in the shadow under his lip!)

Just wondering if your kids have ever had a skin allergy/rash like that from exposure to strawberries or something else? I'm guessing if it's still there in the morning, it's probably the allergy, and probably harmless, but I'm just curious.

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like he's allergic to me. My daughter has a mild allergy to strawberries, and it sounds like the same rash she gets when she eats them. I still let her eat them every once in a while because it doesn't seem to bother her, she just gets the rash on her mouth.

It sounds more like dry skin to me. My 4 year old has the same issue and it's from dry skin. Last night his was raised and red but he says it doesn't hurt. I put Aquaphor on it last night and it was almost completely gone!!

I would think if it were allergies it would not be in that one place. Give the Aquaphor a try (it's in the lotion aisle with the Eucerin products)

ONLY when i eat dehydrated strawberries one of my eyes swells up (the skin around it I mean) and turns red and hot. Don't know why, but I avoid cereals with strawberries in them! Fresh strawberries don't affect me (now at least, my dad developed an allergy to them in his 40s)
