We are new to Dallas and Texas from San Francisco. On our arrival 2 mths ago our 17 mth old developed numerous rashes on various parts of his body with no real connection to food etc. HE is very itchy! Sometimes his whole face will swell and turn red and stay all day. WE have him on hydorxine and its okay (others didnt work). Doctor and specialist seemed stumped altough they are suggesting excema, but there are no real dry red patches. I dont wantt ocover his body in steriods as suggested. Does anyone have experience with a rash like this? Can anyone recommend a pediatrician in Dallas/N. Dallas area as well as a allergist?
I am so overwhelmed with his needs combined with the recent move - please send in those suggestions!!!!
Thank you
L.

So What Happened?

After much anguish my sons skin troubles have abaited. They were not allergy related but due to sensative skin and the climate change, maybe even his age. For now we bath him everyday and use cetaphil cream in the tub regularly. We are careful about cleaners we use in the house - those that are not abresive and natural. For awhile he would receive Hextacon medicine at night te relieve the itching. The colder weather has helped Im sure but his skin is beautiful again except for a few red spots here and there. We hope this will not come back next summer! Thank you all for your help.

Welcome to Texas L. and yes it is true what that alternative doctor or practioner mentioned about cleansing of the liver.

I worked at a chemical factory using aluminum and pulverized coal to make explosives back in 1978 to 1981 or so. I then started breaking out on my arms and it looked as if someone had taken a wire scrub brush to my arms. No short sleeves for me and I had frozen hands, feet and bottoms and severe headaches for the next 15 years. I was always so very cold and chilled when everyone else felt normal. Airconditioner in my vehicle or house made me feel so very cold and chiled to the bone.

All this to say that about 6 years ago I heard about the cleansing of the liver and BINGO... my skin problems cleared up along with the pain in my "uterus"... actually it was my liver, I now am able to have the AC on like any other normal person, my feet, hands and bottoms are no longer frozen and I got rid of the pain in my uterus... or what I thought was a pain in my uterus. It was actually my liver being so swollen from all those toxins. Upon doing a liver cleanse, I got rid of all the problems. I was actually in the process of getting ready to have a hysterectomy but the liver cleanse got rid of my problems. Dr. Brabham then explained why it was I got rid of my problems. He is an alternative physician too.

I have never been to Dr. Sandra, nor do I benefit financially by recommending you go see her...but trust me the alternative method is the way I would go or take my children to instead of giving them all those steroids. By the way my husband uses Grapeseed and got rid of his Asthma. His pulmonary specialist in Grapevine told him to continue taking it as he no longer requires the use of inhalers due to using Grapeseed. You can buy it at Walmart in the vitamin section. Works wonders on those allergies as it is an antioxidant. He also dropped 50 pounds after getting of those steroids and no longer has to be on all those antibiotics like he was since he was a child due to asthma and being sick with cold, flue, pneumonia. etc.. he remains healthy and ashtma free as long as he takes that Grapeseed. He couldn't even laugh at a joke cause he would lose all his oxygen and start choking. If he didn't have that inhaler he would choke to death.

He started on the Grapeseed 10 years ago and has never gone back to the inhaler except for when he has used the reda ant killer stuf that looks like ground up coffee that stinks so bad and is sold in red or orange bags .... and being we have all those bugs here in Texas may that explains why people have all those allergies due to all those toxins they use to get rid of them. Steven would also have increased asthma problems when he fertilized the lawn.. another harsh chemical.

By the way he has been asthma free from day one that he started using Grapeseed about 10 years ago.

This is not medical advice to anyone... am just sharing what worked for my husband and me.

Hope this helps and sorry for writing a book on this one.. but wanted to address all that I read on the other responses.

Hi L.! Welcome to Texas. My son had horrible eczema his first year! We took him to several doctors, and finally to a pediatric dermatologist. We saw Dr. K. Robin Carder at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She was excellent! One visit and she was able to correctly diagnose the eczema and prescribe the lotions and creams that finally cleared up the problem in about 2 weeks (after suffering for months!). My son is now 16 months and only has occasional outbreaks. I highly recommend Dr. Carder, and I think she is the chief professor of dermatology at UTSW. If for some reason you cannot see her, definitely see a pediatric dermatologist instead of a regular dermatologist. But see her if you can - you'll be glad you did!
Good Luck,
D.

Hi L.,

I live in Allen and love my pediatrician here that is connected to Allen Presbyterian Hospital. His name is Dr. Yuri Cook and his number is ###-###-####. He is very knowledgable and his follow through demonstrates his passion for children and medicine. I moved here from Oceanside, CA back in December 2003 with a 3mos old and a 4 yr old. I agree that moving with little ones is BEYOND OVERWHELMING. I also use some pure, safe, and beneficial products on my girls because they both have very sensitive skin. I have some samples if you would like to try. The skin conditioning oil heals up any small abrasions in just a couple of days. It is awesome. Let me know if you would like to try and I can share more of my story and would love to hear more about yours. I love San Francisco! Feel free to email me at ____@____.com care and don't forget about taking care of yourself, too.

All 3 of my boys have allergies and severe eczema. We tried over the counter hydrocortisone creams, elidel, and prescription steroid creams. Nothing worked to any great degree. We also tried Aveeno, Cetaphil, Jergens, & Eucerin lotions (among others) and these either had absolutely no effect on their skin or they were very greasy. This was all under the care of their AWESOME pediatrician, allergist, and dermatologist. It wasn't until we switched our household over to using products without harsh chemicals (bleach, ammonia, harsh abrasives, phosphates, formaldehyde, etc.)that we saw any relief for our babies. THE DIFFERENCE IS AMAZING! I'll be happy to tell you exactly what products we use. Contact me & we'll talk. :)

When my daughter was a few months old she started breking out into rashes especially on her face. It was linked to our soap. Try the Dove sensitive skin or some other sensitive skin type of bar soap. Also Gold Bond Medicated powder helps.

When we moved here 6 mos ago my daughter used to be seen by a specialist in Miami (we lived in Tampa.) who recommended, and I concur, a Dr. Ponciano Cruz, Dir. of Contact Dermitis & Patch Test Clinics, Dept of Derm at Southwestern Med. Ctr. ###-###-####. My daught has several chemical allergies and can't use any pre-made creams or ointments. This guy is her former Doc's pere and they are only a handful in country like them. You may have to wait 6 wks or so to get in but definitly worth the drive.

Hi L.!

It sounds like your son could have an over growth of yeast in his system or other allergies that are atypical. At our office we use Applied Kinesiology (muscle testing) to determine allergies. Once we determine allergies are present, we use a cold therapeutic laser to eliminate the allergies from his system. Even if we can not determine the exact allergy the laser will help to eliminate it from his system. We can also check his liver to make sure it is functioning optimally. The liver is what is needed to detoxify whatever is bombarding his system. If his liver is not working efficiently we can put him on nutritional supplements for his liver to get it working better. I have an office in Plano and Mesquite. If you are interested please call me at ###-###-#### or ###-###-#### to schedule an appointment. Thanks!

Dr. Sandra S.

have been working with patients to eliminate allergies. Using Applied Kinesiology, we can test your son and determine his allergies. After that we can use a cold therapeutic laser to eliminate his allergies. It has great results and it is totally healthy! Also, there are no side effects! Let me know if you are interested.

My son and I both have suffered from eczema. I prefer the all natural route so I went with Calendula Cream by California Baby. It worked really well for us. You can get it at Healthy Approach Market in Colleyville or at The Sunshine Shoppe in Fort Worth. I'm sure other health food stores carry it though. It's also good for a lot of other skin sensitivities. You can read about it at www.californiababy.com. Good luck!!

My son has excema, and I use Elidel. It's not a steroid, and it's safe to use every day. Then I use a thick, heavy cream (Eucerin--sold @ Wal-Mart) to moisturize him twice a day. That works for us. Good luck!!!

Hi L.! I just want to say ditto to the natural products in your home. I have 7 children and we had it all! Allergies, athsma, skin problems... We converted our home to natural products. We no longer have allergy symptoms, athsma attacks or skin problems. The best news is that they are priced below grocery store name brands. I would be happy to direct you if you like:) N. ____@____.com ###-###-####

Hi L.. Welcome to Texas. We moved here about a year and a half ago from the West Coast as well. After my 2.5 year old son had horrendous diaper rashes from antibiotics this winter, I started looking for a different/better skincare and diaper rash cream for him. I buy the products at wholesale now. I'd be happy to share some with you. I know that my friend uses them exclusively for her son who also suffers from Excema. Now, he no longer has any symptoms. You can check them out at www.mandyolsen.myarbonne.com. Please let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

Hi L.! My son had the same problem, and I was so scared to put steroids all over him! That was the worst feeling! I shared that with his doctor and she reccommended a company to us. We just switched over all of our products that came in contact with his skin. With-in 2 weeks we noticed a difference and with-in a month it was gone. It is AWESOME! I would love to get you some more information if you would like!

I have a son and two daughters with eczema and each case is different. My son's looks like dry skin and feels real rough whereas my daughters have pathches of redness that look like bug bites and some dry skin pathches. I saw an allergist for I knew eczema is a reaction to allergies. But all she did was give creams with steriods. Then I went to see an alternative med. nurse and since then the kids have had better results than any doctor we've seen or gotten advice from. We changed our son's diet (since his is the worse) to no more fried, greasy foods to more foods that have high antioxidents. We also changed the use of all cleaners and fragances in our home to be allergen free. Detergents changed. Anything with perfumes went out the window. The alternative med. nurse who did an assesment found out alot of the causes of their skin conditions. It has been sooo much better since. Each person is different so what works for mine might not be for you or to that extent. Would love to talk to you more if you want. Thanks

Hi L. -

We're also CA transplants. 8 weeks now and loving TX. The only down side we have noticed is there are a LOT of bugs. Is it possible this is bug bites and a reaction?

We have welts, bumps, itching and all sorts of other bug-related skin symptoms that we never had in CA. We also have had a lot of digestive issues...not sure what that's all about but think both are due to the changes in location and our bodies adjusting to the nuances of our new home state.......just a thought since you aren't sure if it's excema.....(which I have also and am glad for all the suggestions below).

Take care, enjoy Texas and hopefully your baby will be feeling well soon. It sounds like an allergist is a good way to go.

Oh - have you spoken with your insurance provider? Mine helped me find a pediatric neurologist for my 9 year old with migraines.

L.~ First, Welcome to Texas! We moved here almost 2 years ago from the San Francisco area too! Small World! We lived in the Walnut Creek area. How about you?

My youngest daughter had excema until we started using Arbonne's Baby Care line. It is very gentle and safe, but highly effective. I use the hair/body wash and lotion on both of my girls and we have not had any more problems with dry skin or rashes. I also keep some of the baby oil on hand, just in case we do something where her skin gets really dried out, like swimming etc. You can check it out at www.arbonne.com. I can also email you some more information about it if you want!

Good luck with everything! Moving can be stressful, especially with kids!

Take care!
