My son is a few months away from turning 3. The last few months...very randomly...he has been getting sick in the middle of the night. He will wake up coughing and end up throwing up. He will usually throw up a few more times to the point that he is dry heaving then goes back to sleep. In the morning he is fine...same as the night before. He is active and happy with no cough or fever or anything to indicate that he was sick in the night. I've thought about food allergies but there is never a common factor. The only commonality I have noticed is that one of our cats is in heat. About 8 months ago my 8 year old discovered 2 kittens in the dividing wall of my carport. He was in love before I got home from work and we kept them but I have yet to be able to get them fixed. They are both females and both go into heat, but it always seems to be the same cat at the time that my son gets sick. Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing the vomiting? I took him to the doctor over a month ago and she thought he had a nasal drip and gave me a prescription for a cough medicine to give him when he is sick. He isn't coughing or congested when he goes to bed and I don't want to give him medicine for no reason!
Have you thought about acid reflux? Sometimes it doesn't act up until they are laying down and that may cause both the coughing and vomitting. I don't have any presonal experience with it, but it sounds similar to what one of my friend's kid has experienced.
The allergens may be spiking during the cat's heat. Does this cat spend more time in his bedroom than the other one? I would suggest you change your son to a different bed and see if he still suffers the same reaction.

have you elevated his bed? if he's got a nasal drip, elevating his bed will help the fluid stay outta his ears and throat. It keeps happening every few months.. i would look into an allergist too.. My dd is allergic to dust mites, cats, feathers and grasses..and a long list of foods..

Definitely get him tested. Although if he's allergic to cats, he should be allergic to both. My DS has several allergies, one being to dogs.

I would try a cool mist vaporizer in his room at night in case he is congested or is allergic to something in or around his room and make an appt with an allergist. They can test him and find out for sure. Good luck!

Does he wake up coughing and having trouble breathing?
Some times kids will wake in the middle of the night coughing and have an asthma attack. The vomiting could be from the cough. I would take him to the doctor to be seen.
why don't you take him to a pediatric allergist/pulmonolgit. they can definitely help you figure it out!! good luck, J.
Sounds to me like the cat allergy could be a possibility. I would make an appointment to see an allergist and they can tell you if it's the cats or if not, hopefully what it is.

It may also be other things in your home. I am with a Health & Wellness Company and I converted my home from all the toxic chemicals.
