I just got a portable dvd player for my 18 month son for plane rides. However all he wants to do is press the buttons and then gets mad when the movie stops. I am looking for a way to hide/protect the buttons. Some sort of case or guard?? Has anyone ever seen something like that or have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

We had the same problem with our kids... we found a cover at radio shack with a clear part over where the buttons are. You can still push the buttons, but you have to press VERY hard. They also sell the kind with a hard clear part where you can't press the buttons, but you can use the remote.

I know you already bought one, so this may not help, but when my son was little, I purchased a dvd player that had a swivel screen. You can flip the screen around so the buttons would be behind it and out of reach. That worked for me and was a feature I looked for when I purchased it.

The case we have does not have anything to protect the buttons from being pressed, but most portable DVD players do have a LOCK switch which is usually found on the side of the DVD player that you can flip on and off. This is a great function because the kid(s) can press a button and nothing happens :)

If you do not find a case that works how about putting a thicker headband around the part that has the buttons to hide the buttons and also protect them. Hope you find something that works for you.

An 18 month old should never be looking at any screen. You are making him a right brained visual learner who is shutting off his auditory in order to process the visual. CHildren at that age can't do both. ADHD is a real risk if you expose young children to screens/TV.
