We are going to fly to Boston in a little bit more than a week. My daughter is very active, so I know it will be a challange to keep her in one spot for more than 5 minutes. Can anyone recommend a good portable dvd player? What do you need to look at when buying one? can those be attached in the car? Sorry, but I know nothing about that. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

When you look for one for a plane, make sure the sound can go up very loud. We had gotten one for a plane trip, but because the plane is so loud, my kids could barely hear it even with the ear phones. So it was pretty much useless and we returned it when we got back. We now have one that can be put on the back seats of our car that is portable and it does have better sound but we haven't tested it in a plane yet. Good Luck.

We used to use one in the van for long road trips but don't anymore after we had a fire department car seat person tell us how dangerous they are if you happen to be hit by another car, even an uneventful accident. Unless they are SUPER secure to the headrest (maybe attached below the headrest and the headrest is squeezed down onto the straps) then it becomes a projectile and can cause serious injuries that otherwise would not have occurred. They said they see unfortunate injuries from these sort of things striking the kids and parents all the time. They also cautioned about those curtain-rod style sun shades (use the stick-on kind instead) and the mirrors.

I guess the cars with the built in ones are best! Maybe you can select a rental car with one once you arrive to your destination??

I think ours is a Sony and it is great! We have had it about 4 years now and it is still working great. You can charge the battery and watch it anywhere or you can plug it in. My husband got the battery attachments to power it through the cigarette lighter in the car and another cable that hooks to the stereo so the kids can watch movies in the car and we can even play the sound through the car stereo if we want.

They have been out a while so you can find one at a reasonable price. I definately think it would be worth it. Whenever ours dies we will be getting another one. Hope this helps and good luck on the plane!
