Poop Stained Clothes

Okay I know that subject line is not very appealing but my baby has stained a lot of his clothes. When he poops it comes out of the back and all over his clothes. Any suggestions on how to treat these stains. I can not do a load of laundry every time he has a bm :)

What can I do next?

I rinse, spray with Spray n' Wash and just let it hang dry until the next time I do laundry (usually throw all the poopy clothes together in one load).

Hi Victoria,
We use oxy clean or the clorox brand of it. It works WONDERS!! When poop or whatever gets on something I soak it overnight before washing. I put a scoop or 2 depending on severity of stain and some laundry soap in a bucket with really hot water then put in the garment. Then the next day or whenever the next load of wash is happening I just dump the whole bucket in the washer. That has taken out every stain for us!!

Good luck, S.

I had the same problem with my daughter when she was about that age as well. I have found that Oxi-Clean gets EVERYTHING out in one wash, as opposed to 3 or 4 which I was doing with her regular baby detergent. Oxi-Clean has a baby line that is free of perfumes, chlorine, and dyes, which I have only found online, but I have also found Oxi-Clean Free in my grocery store which I use now. I also have the baby oxi-clean spray, and occasionally pre-treat but have found it's generally not necessary. I just throw the clothes in the wash with regular detergent (ALL Free/Clear) and a scoop of Oxi, and it always comes out clean.

Another tip if your baby's diapers are constantly going up his back, consider moving up one size in diapers. I did this with my daughter and found that we had fewer accidents/messes in her clothes.

Good luck!

I love Oxi-clean for babies. It comes in an spray bottle and it works every time. I have not found a stain it can't remove and I even use it on my husband and I's clothes. It is great!

Shout always worked for us, but we got it on right after the blowout and before the first wash after the blowout. If it's already been washed and dried, I don't know that the stains will come out.

I have found that plain old Dawn dish soap will take out most stains when used before you wash the clothing. It is awesome for formula stains, greasy stains, food stains, etc.

Oxiclean. Spray it on and leave it in the hamper.

Victoria,

I had a similar problem when both my children (now ages 4 and 2) had diarrhea for about 3 months. I got the stains out for the most part, but then I switched to Wisk and Oxi-Clean for my washing and EVERY stain comes out no matter what. I was even pleased when it got the smell of cat out of the clothes. Wisk is also great with getting anything out of clothes and when you mix it with Oxi-Clean, you have a powerful stain remover.

Use PreSpot. It will take out almost all stains. Some stains will require full-strength PreSpot. However, many lighter stains will disappear with a 50% dilution just as well.

Are you sure he is wearing the right size diaper? You might want to go up a size & see if that helps.

Otherwise, I have always put Shout on the stain, let it soak in for a bit before washing. I know friends have had good luck with Baby Oxiclean.

I used Totally Toddler, sold at Walmart in the baby section. Put it on after rinsing the area and let it soak. No need to wash immediately!! Works great on spit up stains and anything else for other family members!

Victoria~
I have had great sucess with Dreft spray (I could only find this in Target- laundry section- for a long time, but some Wal-mart stores are starting to carry it in the baby section.). Whether I'm doing laundry that day or not I would spray the soiled area real good and let it soak. If it sat for a day or two I would spray again while a load was washing and let it soak in again and wash as usual. It works on drool stains and mac & cheese stains too. My daughter's clothes all look brand new. Good luck.

Victoria,

First, do your baby's diapers fit correctly? BM should not be coming out the back of his diaper EVERY time he poops.
Second, if the diapers do fit correctly - you might want to ask your pediatrician about these massive poops.

I know it is impossible to do laundry every time he poops but maybe you should have a seperate laundry container for these soiled articles of clothing. When baby poops on the clothes - spray the clothes with a good stain dissolver. I know that some of the stain dissolvers say not to spray until you are ready to wash but I have sprayed and let the clothes wait and then sprayed again right before I washed the clothes and no harm has come to any clothing I have done like this. Since you are spraying these clothes twice with a stain dissolver - rinse the clothes twice to make sure it all comes out. Then check the clothes BEFORE you put them in the dryer - if the stain is still there - DO NOT put the clothing in the dryer. Treat the clothing again with stain dissolver and wash it next time you do laundry. Last - I wash ALL my clothes in cold water - it seems to me that sometimes hot water (just like the heat from the dryer) sets stains in.
I hope this helps.

Try a borax/vinegar/water mixture in a bucket. After a bm, rinse clothes off and stick them in the bucket, you may need a lid if you detest the smell of vinegar. Then, just throw them in the wash when your readyThis works well for cloth diapers as well. It's totally non-toxic and won't irritate his skin or damage clothes.

At that age, I would just take the pooped on item, swish it around in the toilet to get rid of the major goo. I designated a big tupperware with a lid for poopy clothes and filled it with water and oxyclean powder. I would put it in, put on the lid so no pets drank the oxiclean and let it sit until wash day. The oxiclean even ate off the left over solids most of the time.

Hi. There is this incredible stuff called Krud Kutter. Get the original kind and spray it directly on the spot. Let it sit like 24 hours then wash. It should come out completely if not do it again. You can buy it at a paint store or Home depot is supposed to have it but I haven't seen it there. Or Krudkutter.com

It's fabric safe and will take out any stain!

I have had a lot of success with Oxy-Clean Spray. Rinse the garment as best you can (yuk!), spray with Oxy, then wash with your regular wash. I usually re-spray just prior to putting in the washer.
