Oldest made the move when he was three. He was content being in his crib, so no incentive to move him.

Youngest made the move at 1 1/2. She was climbing out of her crib and was ready.

My son went from crib to twin bed (we used bed rails) at about 3 1/2.
He liked that I could sit with him in bed to read bedtime stories.

we do not consider that something you "transition" to. We bought our oldest a toddler bed when he was 15 months old because I was pregnant with twins and seeing as they would be needing the crib when they were born he needed to be used to his new bed well before they twins were born. So, at 15 months we bought the toddler bed, my son "helped" my husband put it together and that was that. He started that day being in the new bed for naps and bedtime. If you set your child up to have a difficult time, for something to be "traumatic" or hard then that is how they will act. We simply said here is your new bed and when it is time for bed you have to stay in. that was it, we didnt make some huge theatrical production like some parents do or coddle him like it was a life changing event. and from the first time he went to take a nap and bedtime he laid down and that was that. of course he got up from time to time, but we had the baby gate up in front of his door and he would look around and then go lay back down. easy peasy!

My daughter was about two. I figure if they are climbing out then it's time for a change.

We bypassed the toddler bed (cost wise as well as I really didn't want to deal with another transition) and my kids were all in twin sized beds with rails between 2 and 2 1/2.

My first child was around 2 months away from turning 3. We skipped a toddler bed and went straight to a twin bed with a railing on both sides. We needed the crib for #2 and my oldest had gotten too big tall for the crib so a toddler bed would have been worthless.
My second child was somewhere between 3 & 4 maybe when we moved him to a toddler bed. He was nearing 5 when we put him in a twin bed.
My third is almost 29 months old and we're not moving her until we have to. No idea if it'll be to a toddler bed or twin. We could not move her to a twin until we move because there is nowhere to put it here.
No hurry to move them out of the crib. #1 had outgrown it and we needed it again, #2 was because he was climbing out (and in) all the time. #3 has no interest to climb out. She'll probably outgrow it before anything else.

Depends on their personality. We have mellow night kids, so they were out of the crib at around 18 months.

It's not so much age but ability. I moved my daughter out when she successfully climbed out. She was sitting on the changing table of her dresser, looking so proud! she was about 2 years old.

My daughter switched on her 2nd birthday, but she was an easy kid and never got out of it. We switched my son at around 2.5, but only because I had surgery and wasn't able to lift him in and out of the crib anymore. I would have waited longer for him had it not been for that issue. It totally depends on the kid.

My daughter was out at 19 months.

My son will be 2 next month. I am not sure when he is getting moved. He loves his crib and I am fearful he will stop napping if I move him. He has been able to climb out of it for a long time, but up until recently he hasn't wanted to.

He was about 2.
It was right BEFORE I heard the advice: "Crib til 3 or until they are climbing out." He wasn't and I should have let him be. He LOVED his crib.
SO many people were saying "Oh--is he in a BIG BOY bed yet?" "Dis you get rid of the crib yet?" I should have left him right where he was! It was a nightmare. He wasn't ready. And it opens a whole can of worms, especially when they're too little to "get it" about the bed.

My daughter was not out of her crib until 3.5. She could climb in and out but never actually fell or got hurt doing it. She just loved her crib!

While my son was already, 3 years old.
WHY?
Well, he LOVED his crib and slept SO well in it.
Sure he climbed out once, but never did that again, after he fell out of it.
Then one day, HE told us, HE wanted to be in a regular bed.
So we did.
A mattress on the floor.
He adjusted fine.
It was by his cues.
He was ready.
We had no problem with him per sleep, with it.

15-18 months. A toddler bed is for toddlers, that means 12-24 months. They are no longer toddlers at that point but considered pre-schoolers. If your child is older than 2 think about just going directly to the bed they will have the rest of their little life at home, before college...

my son was 3 my daughter was 3.5. keep them in the crib as long as possible.. you do not want a toddler running around your house when you think they are taking a nap.

my kids are 18 months apart.. so I needed the cribs as a safe place for them to be if I needed a shower.

I would only move a child if he had to move as with a new baby coming or he won't stay in the crib, etc. When my first two, 12 months apart, were little we moved our oldest to a twin bed around 15 months old because he got out anyhow and we put a child gate up to keep him in the room. We had to really make sure the room was safe as he got into things since he could get out but it worked out fine. I would not do that unless necessary though. If the child sleeps well they are safer in the crib and why move them?
