Yes I did because my PCP felt I should because of my allergies. In hindsight I asked my allergist and he said that I did NOT need it.

(I have more confidence in my allergist but it wasn't like I could consult with him at the time sooooo yes I got it.)

Does anyone in their 40s count?
I received on in December while I was hospitalized for pneumonia and shingles.
I wondered why give it to me while I was already sick, but I wasn't in a position to ask too many questions.
My lungs have been good and clear since, for what it's worth.
Because of my shingles, I have a compromised immune system and am prone to pneumonia. I can't see where it hurt me to have it.

Just my opinion.

Not quite there yet, but I also can not remember the last time I had that vaccine. I get Flu yearly and when I worked in food business Hep A, but non other that I can recall.

I have received it per doctor's recommendations (PCP and allergist). However, I do have asthma, which poses a greater risk.

If you have had pneumonia then you should get vaccinated. Also, if you have any kind of chronic lung conditions you would probably want the vaccine as well. Talk to your doctor about it for sure.

I've gotten it because I had pneumonia a couple of years ago that did not go away for 4 months.

I just got out of the hospital 3 weeks ago with what they "thought" was a strange strand of pneumonia. This is the second time I have ended up in the hospital over the last 6 years with this. I didn't even KNOW they had a pneumonia vaccine!! At my 2 week check up i asked dr. about this. He said it would be a good idea for me. You get it twice ,once and then again 5 years later. it helps vaccinate against 80% of bacterial pneumonia (most common) but not viral. Hey at this point I'll take what I can get! I honestly feel like I'm dying when I catch whatever it is so anything I can do to avoid this I'll do! Good Luck. Oh by the way I'm 40.
