Put it on your calendar. Big red letters that say "Take NOTHING seriously, dear....you're PMSing."

As soon as you see those words pop up, warn your hubby. Have a few easy dinners ready for those days so you can just go hide, read, relax, exercise, and have a nice hot bath.

Giving hubby fair warning helps a lot. I've told mine, "I love you with all my heart, but my ovaries are making me really hateful today." He usually takes over from there. :-)

ETA: I also often take my irritation out on some project that needs to be done. Deep cleaning the cabinets or laundry room usually takes the wind out of my angry sails.

With severe PMS you really have to regulate your physical activity more than the next PMSer. Make sure you get enough sleep and try and get 30-45 mins of excercise EVERY DAY, even if its walking or just 30 mins of stretching.

Stay off anything stimulating foods or inhibitors like sugar, spicy foods and beer/wine the week before and try to eat as much whole foods (fruits and vegetables, yogurt) as much as you can.

What helps me at the house is listening to my iPod. It tunes people/noise out while I go about doing my work.

First, get a different doctor.

Then try taking calcium, a B-complex vitamin, and magnesium. My doctor suggested that I try it several years ago when I was having trouble with severe PMS. He said that some women have great success with these vitamins, and other women don't see any change at all. For me, it changed my life! Really, it's amazing. I don't have PMS at all anymore.

I hope you find something that helps you, whether it's this or something else. :)

So, hope you don't mind, but I'd like to add another question to yours...

I see people are saying to take Calcium, B-complex and Mg. Do you take them all the time or just for the week or so before your period?

PMS can cause a lot of problems in relationships and in the family.
Here's an article, though I don't know how old you are:
http://www.womentowomen.com/quick-reads/when-pms-gets-wor...?

Or, go to a Naturopath. If you want a more natural way to remedy it.

PMS moodiness is cyclical and hormonal based.
And it can vary in degree of harshness.

Personally, I researched it.
And I went to Whole Foods.
The people in the supplement department was very helpful.
I take Vitex and Dim Plus.
And it works for me. Lessened my PMS moodiness and bitchiness.
The guy I talked to at the store, spent like 1 hour with me.... I asked all kinds of questions, I told him openly I need something for PMS, I get moody etc. and it irks my Husband. Even if he was a guy, he was VERY sympathetic and helpful. He said his wife was the same way so he understands.
Anyway, so for me... I take those things I mentioned above. But that is me. Not that it will be a magical pill for everyone.

You sound like me to a T! I finally was put on progesterone & I am myself again and I also struggled with fatigue. Anti-depressants will not treat hormonal issues. I've struggled with horrible PMS for over a year now & every month I wanted to divorce. I had the same ob/gyn for 14 years & she was not listening to me anymore & thank god for my new therapist she referred me to my new ob/gyn who really listens, this us tmi but she diagnosed me with internal hemmorhoids that I never knew I had my last doctor just gave me a cream & I was miserable for over a year. Seek help with a good dr. Good luck!

Because of PMS my life started after menopause!!! It was wonderful to be free and myself again. I did see a doctor who gave me progesterone troches that were made up by a pharmacist only and they did help some maybe along with a certain kind of water pill ( diuretic ) he also gave me but not sure if they'd do this now. I hope you find some help somewhere though and I can sympathize with you.
