Hi Ladies,

I know that there are lots of opinions out there on plus size pregnancy-mostly negative. But I would like to hear from plus size moms who have had successful pregnancies and deliveries.(size 14plus) I am seeking a obgyn at Kaiser Santa Rosa who is not going to demean or belittle me for being overweight. I exercise regularly, take vitamins and eat extremely healthy. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to go to? I love my current obgyn but am transfering insurance to Kaiser soon-

Thank you so much for your advice!

M.

Hey Molly,

I am size 14 as well and I did not have any difficulties at all. I actually only gained 12 lbs the whole time. I knew that I only needed a few more calories a day to sustain my little one and did not use the pregnancy as a free ticket to gorge myself on food. Not once did my doctor give me a hard time. The ones who have issues are the ones that say, " I'm pregnant , I can eat everything." That only leads to issues down the line. I actually ended up losing a dress size after the birth.

Hi Molly, I too was plus size during my pregnancy. I just gave birth to a beautiful little girl on 5/19/08. I didn't have Kaiser but mid way through my pregnancy my doctor Louise Huang transfered to Kaiser in Santa Rosa after her Maternity leave ended. She is fabulous she made me feel great even though I was plus size. I highly recommend her. If you have questions feel free to email me at ____@____.com
Thanks
C.

Hi Molly I have a beautiful 22 month old girl and I am a plus size I wear a size 22 bottom but 26 top and I actually lost weight while pregnant but I was sick alot to. I also went to Kaiser but my OBGYN was in Petaluma and I had her at Kaiser in Santa Rosa and they were all great. I heard from a friend that is overweight and pregnant that they are not to friendly there but I don't know. I know I had a great experience with all the nurses and midwife that delivered her. I just had to take more stress tests on her and get checked more often because in case the blood pressure goes up for which I didn't have any problems with anyway. And I was 35 also so they worry about that to but I never had any problems everyone was always helpful.

Ya know there used to be a time when size 14 was NOT considered plus size. I should know, when I was a size 14 I went to an audition for "plus size" models and was told I was too thin.

And I'd say if you have no other health issues to go along with that size (diabetes, high blood pressure etc) then have another baby and if a doctor gives you grief move on. And if anyone else gives you grief well there's a very convienent finger you can show 'em LOL. If you do have other issues be sure they are under control and monitor them closely during your pregnancy.

I would echo what the previous posters said 1. don't use pregnancy as an excuse to eat like you're never going to eat again. 2. Louise Huang is a FANTASTIC doctor and I was just getting ready to make an appointment to go see her (I'm WAY past due for my annual .. by like 2 years LOL). Darn it, now I'll have to choose someone else.
