Ok i have posted about this before and only got one response. My son who is 9 months old wakes up 2/3 times a night. I have tried letting him cry it out and try and put himself to sleep But he will just keep crying. I have tried a water bottle and a binky, music/nightlight in crib etc..! He wants no part of the binky and whether it is a water bottle or a milk bottle he only drinks a little bit before falling back to sleep. So i don't think it's because he is hungry. I have NEVER let him sleep with me and have always put him in bed before he fell asleep on me. He does go to bed with a bottle but again only drinks about an ounce before falling asleep. I NEED HELP!!!! I have not had a full nights sleep or a full 4 hours in forever. School started for my other children so i am up at 7:30 to get them ready, i do not go to bed until after 11pm because i am up making lunches and finishing up wash or cleaning up dinner dishes etc..etc... before i go to bed. So if i get 5 hours total a night i am lucky!!! Here is his schedule...he goes to bed at 9pm and wakes at about 12 goes back to bed and wakes again about 4am goes back to bed and is than up with us at 7:30am, goes back to bed after kids go to school around 9-9:30am and that is usually only for about a half an hour. than it's breakfast time and he will take cat naps (usually 15min to half an hour each nap) throughout the day. Please any advice would be appreciated!! I am starting to get mad at him at night and yell (not directly at him but just yell like "come on") I don't mean to but i am running on less than 5 hours sleep a day!!!!

Ok i have to clarify something before i get anymore responses, yes me and my soon to be ex are still living together, although we are legally seperated and getting divorced. But we are very civil to one another, there no argueing or fighting. So the cause of my little one not sleeping is not because he is stressed. I know that is the first thing people would think but i just wanted to clarify that!

T., Okay well this is just a suggestion maybe you could put cereal in his bottle before he goes to bed and that might keep his tummy full and help him sleep better. Since the binky doesn't work. Also feed him the bottle and then put him to bed. Also if it is possible have him eat breakfast when your other kids do and maybe it will start him on a new schedule and it might work out with naps and so on. I understand that you are tired and frustrated been there and the yelling part been there too. Hope this helps or someone can give you advise. R. C.

orry to hear about the sleeping problem. my son is now 13 but went thru his first 3 years of 2-3 wakeups and lots of crying.
by 5-6 months old I felt like I had anumber of breakdowns due to lack of sleep. Finally my husband and I took shifts. So he would take the eve until 12-1 and I would take over thru the morning. This way we both got sleep. It worked for a couple of months but work changed and he was still getting up.I tried him crying it out(caved in )tried rocking(he always fell asleep in my arms but woke up as soon as he was put into the crib.I finally did what all my nursing friends did,Put him in our bed.It was the best thing I did for my sanity and he slept and when he woke I had a bottle ready that I gave him ,he would then fall back to sleep.
You must do what is best for your situation but you will see that probably the only thing is to either have him cry to sleep or put him in your bed.Try to get some sleep so you can fuction for your other kids as well.
Good luck

T. F. It seems like a lot is going on right now in your house. Maybe he is feeling the stress that your family is under right now. Try to do some stress breaking exercises with him or some cool down before bed exercises. Try the sleepy time bath soap for babies. I know a nice warm shower or bath before bed helps me get to sleep. He might just be one of those children who does not require a lot of sleep now but he will make up for that when he is older I know my oldest one was like that and now all she wants to do is sleep. Well Good luck with everything.

Have you tried putting him to bed earlier?? My son used to get less sleep when I put him to bed later. No one ever believed me but he slept better when I put him to bed at 7:30 or 8pm than when he went to bed at 9pm. He was over-tired, I guess. He always slept better when he went to bed earlier.

Another thing I suggest is not letting him go to sleep with a bottle. It sounds like the bottle is a source of comfort for him that he might be used to falling asleep with. When you put him to bed try putting him in the crib when he is groggy but not completely asleep and let him learn to fall asleep on his own. He might just be looking for the comfort from the bottle since that has been his routine for going to bed. As you said, he is really not hungry so if you put him down without it he'll be okay. It probably will take a few days of being consistent but he'll figure it out. That's the hard part...being consistent. If you can just get through a few days of crying it out...it will be much better in the future. I hope you can get some sleep soon.
