Hey Ladies! I must come to the wisest of the wise, again...
A few days ago, my left nipple felt very sore. When I got in the shower that night, I noticed two tiny black dots, not right ON the nipple, but more around it... I think it's called the areola?? Anyways, I tried to get them off, thinking maybe it was just something that got stuck there... they won't come off. They are un poppable.. I cant even wear a bra... and as soon as I am alone in the house, I lose the shirt... It hurts a lot, and now I am getting concerned, of course the big C flashing in my head... Anyways, I guess I'm looking for support... Has anyone else ever had this? What is it, and how do you make yourself more comfortable?? Thanks girls

What can I do next?

I agree that you need to see a doctor right away, but try to go to an ob-gyn specifically. You need a doctor that is the most informed about what could be causing you this pain and what you need. Any other type of doctor may not have sufficient knowedge to properly diagnose you. Good luck and we're all thinking of you!

My mom had something like that when I was a kid. The spot slowly got bigger and bigger. She thought it was a boil but it was cancer. I would go to the dr immediatly. It could be nothing but why take the chance?

Go to the Doc sweetie! I had a staph infection in my right breast after an improper latching/nipple guard/ excessive nursing combo happened. And yes! Go to Your OB/GYN if possible or have a trusted friend recomend one to you. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this.

S., I would urge you to make an appointment to see your doctor right away. It may be nothing but a bug bite or unfortuantly it could be a very unheard of uncommon type of BC that many women do not know about, but either way it si something you don't want to wait even a day to have looked at. I wish you the best of luck and will be praying for you. Please let me know how things turn out. Nicole

Hi there,
Are you nursing? If so it could be infected. If not it sounds like a black head! Don't quote me on this but i am pretty sure cancer does not hurt! Maybe wait a few more days and if it doesn't resolve itself call your Dr! I 'll bet it will be ok!

I have gotten something similar. Mine were just blackheads though from sweating in a sports bra. I would call and talk to a nurse or go to the doctor. Mine never hurt like that.

First, understand that I am not a medical professional, and nobody can diagnose you without seeing you. Please go to a doctor to make sure. If you are nursing, it could be mastitis. An infection that can be easily treated with antibiotics. You need to get to a doc right away. Mastitis usually starts as a clogged duct, then advances into infection. I've had a clogged duct before, and it was incredibly painful. (Like you said, just wearing clothing hurt! I'm sure your pain is awful. Hang in there. Good luck, and get well soon. This will sound crazy, but putting cabbage leaves in my bra for 20 min intervals (cabbage, pump, then put on warm cloth) helped my pain. Apparently, the cabbage reduces the engorgement, but left on too long can deplete your milk supply. I must caution you that I did not have an infection, just a clogged duct. Another resource is Busom Buddies, a nursing support group that has nurses and lactation consultants on call. If this is nursing related, they can give you ideas to make you more comfortable.

Just so you can get a good night's rest, let me say that most forms of breast cancer do not hurt, and that is why they take so long to diagnose.
This sounds more like a bleb, which is a painful blister usually caused by a bad latch while breastfeeding, but also possibly cause by friction from your bra.
My son had a staph infection on his nose a couple years ago and it started out looking like a blackhead and then expanded and started to hurt terribly. A round of antibiotics got rid of it.
I agree with the other posters that you should seek medical advice immediately, especially since you are in so much pain. Remember, ibuprofen is compatible with breastfeeding (you didn't say if you are nursing) but it also has anti-inflammatory properties that will minimize any swelling or inflammation from an infection.
If it were me, I would go to see a certified nurse midwife, since she is likely to have had advanced lactation training and thus be familar with breast infections and abnormalities AND can prescribe meds or order labs if you need them. An OB or even a family practice doctor or nurse practitioner could be good, but is less likely to have knowledge of breast infections.
Please keep us posted. I'll be thinking of you and hoping you're more comfortable soon.

S.,
Get yourself to a doctor NOW!!!! As soon as you can! At least then you can find out what it is and get it taken care of. It could be nothing and it could be Inflamatory Breast Cancer. Get it checked. Do it for you and your little guy, and do it soon.

Hi S. - I agree with other posters that you should get in to your doc soon to check this out.

Do you think they could be blood blisters from an improper latch? Maybe do a search on "milk blisters" and see if anything looks similar to your situation/symptoms.

I would go to a doctor first thing tomorrow. If for nothing else, it will give you peace of mind that it is nothing.
If they do tell you it is nothing, I would still watch it and note your symptoms on a calendar. I've had numerous health issues in the past year, and it was incredibly helpful to write things down to share with the doctors.

Maybe they are ingrown hairs? Everyone I know who has had breast cancer found lumps that didn't hurt at first.

I suggest going to your ob/gyn. Did you breast feed? Maybe it is related to that?

Good luck,

Marci

Usually cancer is inside, I would think, so that may put your mind at ease (a little). Meanwhile, for sure get this stuff:
http://www.herballegacy.com/Black_Ointment.html
You can find it at most herbal shops. It smells weird because of the pine tar, but it really works. I am using it right now to get rid of my moles, and it is working, they are almost gone. Sometimes it gives me a rash, but I think that is better than the pain you are feeling. Just put it on with a bandaid over it, rub it off with soap if it gets too uncomfortable. And yes, it is called the areola, good job!

I second the advice to get to a doctor immediately. None of us here can diagnose you. I know it's scary, but please call your doc today.

Mamasource Moms: there are some types of breast cancer that don't cause lumps. If any of you have even the slightest concern about your breasts, please get it checked out. Time could be of the essence.
