I was wondering if anyone knows of play groups in San Diego? I moved here last November while I was pregnant and haven't really made one friend so far out here. I am in need some adult conversation besides the hubby in the day...I am becoming baby jibberish expert. I have a three month old daughter and SAHM. My husband is in the Marine Corps. doing his second enlistment at MCAS Miramar.

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

I was going through my e-Mail and saw your message on mamasource. It made me so happy because im in desprate need of a friend to have play dates with or just talk about my lil man! I'm 22 and live in San Diego (Mira Mesa) so its pretty close to you! My son was born Aug 7th 2007 His name is Sean. My husband is also away everyday he works up at camp penelton. All my friens are single with no kids so its hard for them to relate to me. I find myself just talking my husbands ear off about sean! I would love to make friens with another new mom.

I recommend you join Scripps Parent Connection, open to anyone, $20 per year, lots of playgroups in all areas for all ages, and classes, other activities, etc. Look up Scripps Parent Connection on google and call the number to ask for a brochure and application. It's a great resource!

go to meetup.com there are a lot of playgroup/mom groups in the San Diego area. I have not gone but a lot of friends have and LOVE it!!!

Through the adult ed programs in East County and San Diego City College they offer "parenting classes" for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Also check park and rec websites for the city you live in...hang in there, being a new mom can be lonely at first but before you know it the friend thing will just happen. You just have to get there and be open minded. Good luck!

Hi J.! I know it must be hard moving to a new place and having a newborn baby, not to mention being a military wife! I want to invite you to our Mommy and Me playgroup that meets every Friday at 10:00. We meet at Mission Point Park every Friday, except the 3rd Friday of every month we meet at the church building (Canyon View Church of Christ) in Clairemont. When we meet at the building we serve a light breakfast and coffee, plus have special activites for the kids. This month we are having someone come do a baby dance class with music, bubbles, parachute, etc...it's alot of fun! Anyway, we have a good mix of moms and threre are ALOT of military families that attend the church. I think you would find a good support system if you visited us! I grew up in the military myself so I can relate to moving to a new place and not knowing anyone. All us moms in the group are really laid back and easy to talk to....feel free to call me ###-###-#### Also, have you tried going to a MOPS groups? J. K

Hi J.!
I highly recommend checking out meetup.com. I'm also a Marine wife and we just moved back to San Diego for a few months before heading back overseas.
We also attend library time on Miramar on Thursdays at 11am.

I do not really know of any play groups but I was in the same position and I started taking my daughter to classes at the YMCA. They have gym classes starting at 6 months old and it was a good place to meet other mothers in the area. I love being a mom and my daughter makes me laugh every day! Good luck and if you ever want to chat you can send me an email!

Hi J.,
I know what's it's like to need to be with other adults when you are with your child(ren) all day. Do you guys live in Military housing? If you contact the fleet and family support center or the Armed Services YMCA they should be able to hook you up with a playgroup in your area. My husband is in the Navy and our housing community has a playgroup twice a month sponsored by the FFSC. I don't have any phone numbers handy, but if you call ###-###-#### that's the general info line for the Naval base at 32nd street and that should help. I have a 7 month old who is helping me type and a five year old. Let me know what you find!

Hi J.
there are so many groups here in San Diego- probably one very near you!! Meetup.com is great- everyone I have met thru that site is great- you can find a group near you, there is a san diego based one , several east county groups and south bay as well. There is also moms and tots - just type playgroups or mommy and me in your search engine and tons will come up. Also keep an eye out for the adult ed catalogs when they come in the mail- they have mommy and me classes!.
Good Luck finding a group to play with- keep looking if the first one you find isn't what you want...the good groups are out there!!
