Planning to Move Soon....

I have sticker decals all over my daughter's room. They are reusable so I know they will stick again, but I am not sure how to transfer them when we move. I didn't keep the paper they came on, I don't know why, so I am wondering if anyone knows of anything I could stick them on to keep them nice so i can transfer them to her new bedroom. We are not moving for about two months but I like to have everything planned. They are all Dora and Diego and I spent about $40 on them all so i would like to be able to use them again instead of redecorating once we get there.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the responses, I think I will go with the wax paper idea as some of the stickers are quite big. I'm moving within the next two weeks now, it changed so i am very excited and want to thank everyone for the ideas. My daughter's bedroom will be the first to go up so they will not be off the wall for long and hopefully this will work and hopefully my daughter will have a nice easy transition into a new bigger(about double the size) bedroom.

I moved about two years ago and my two youngest both had those decal on their walls. All I did was take the largest down first and put it on a piece of waxed paper. Then put the rest of them, sticky side down, on top of each other. They pulled apart easily and stuck right back on the "new" wall. I put them on top of the last box that was packed for that room. It saved me time and a little aggrevation because I wasn't putting things in between each decal and I wasn't trying to pack a billion separate sheets.

I have inserted the decals between pages of a glossy heavy magazine something like real simple or o would work. Then keep the magazine flat, say at the bottom of a carton. Hope this helps!

Why don't you try buying something laminated (and cheap) like those plastic place mats and stick the stickers on both sides then would come off easily. And you can use the place mats after!

I would go to Wal-Mart, Staples, Target, anywhere that sells sheets of poster board that has some shine to it, then when you take the decals off the wall you can stick them to the poster board. Place all the poster boards together in between to sheets of card board when you move, this prevents them from getting damaged in the move. Also keep in mind your daughter may get upset with the move, so have her help you put them up in her new room. We moved when my daughter was 2 1/2 and had tears beyond tears over her leaving her bedroom, so when the movers delivered her things we had them have her tell them where she wanted her bed in her new room and then we had her help us decorate it.

you could probably stick them onto plastic wrap and roll it to keep them smooth.

hi, i would say to take some wax paper and put the decals on that , then just put it in something that won't be bent (like a box, or a large hard book) it should be ok on the wax paper, the paper that it comes on seems to be very much like wax paper anyway. hope it works, try with 1 or 2 decals before making it permanent. oh, you could also take those hard cover childrens books and put them on the covers (very silky slick and wouldn't get ruined that way either as long as the books are kept sturdy and not going to slide around. good luck.

My vote is for a sheet of plastic (the place mat sounded good) or a plastic folder, page protector - any sheet of that type plastic - and I'd roll it up and put in a paper towel tube. Not sure what your stickers look like or if this would curl them up too much....

Maybe some plastic wrap or tin foil. Or poster board. It's hard to say not knowing what kind of stickers they are. Good luck.

I would try wax paper. If for some reason too much wax comes off on them, and they don't stick again you can go to an office supply store. There are many adhesives that can be used that won't ruin a wall, to put them back up again. I don't advise rolling the decals on anything. I know they kind you are talking about, and they would probably curl or permenately crease (sp).

I'm sure that you can get sticker books at the craft store, the ones that kids use to collect stickers in. The pages are all sticker backing paper, so you can put them in there and transport them neatly and easily. You might even be able to find one that has Dora and Diego on the front cover. Good luck with the move.

Go to a local sign shop and tell them the same story....
The rolled vinyl that is used for truck lettering, banners and signs is actually a giant adhesive sticker and comes on the backing...usually from a 36 inch roll....so any banner shop will be crumpling large sheets of these into balls daily.
Static clings come the same way at a sign shop...on roll on backing. If you stop in and ask them for a sheet of it from their next project, they could roll it up and rubber band it for you. Look in your town for a sign-o-rama or fast signs...a large franchise does so much work every day they may be able to provide you with some on the spot. If not...ask them and tell them you could stop back in a couple hours.

If that's not a possibility....I'd say lay them between two bed sheets....roll it around a wrapping paper tube and slide it into a fed ex mailer....any lint can be washed off of the vinyl at the new house and laid out to dry. If they are small....scotch tape them to the side of the washer or refrigerator...they will dry and flatten at the same time.

I never used wax paper, too concerned about the film it will leave if it gets warm.

*****After reading responses

YES THEY WILL UNCURL!!! LAY THEM ON A FLAT SURFACE

All static clings are from a roll, and then fed through a printer then cut.....they uncurled once, they'll do it again. If it has the light adhesive...it should also we washable. It regains stickiness once its dry...do not leave soap on it or use any type of alcohol or ammonia base on it.

FYI...long term, roll them with the print on the outside. Long explaination as to why, but seriously, it's true.

The key is not to crease or try to heat it up to reshape it. very very low heat if any. The vinyl was formed in a shape and will naturally want to return to that shape it was in unless its stretched, heated or creased. If you use wax paper....use a harder cardboard to put them all between, you do not want something leaving a divet or crease in them.

Here's a thought... place them sticky side down onto wax paper, and since it shouldn't stick, put them in the middle of a heavy book between the pages. That ought to work! Test that the sticker doesn't stick first, onto the wax paper. Just to be sure. But I think it'll work, anyway, give it a try!

You can get hard plastic photo pages anywhere they sell scrapbooking or stationary supplies. You can also get Styrene plastic sheets from a craft or hardware store. Either of these will be stiff enough to store and still be able to re-use the stickers.

Put them on wax paper ((((the kind one uses in the kitchen)))) you can buy a roll of this in your local supermarket. Once you have them mounted on wax paper, put another sheet on top of them....then support the wax paper with cardboard the same size on both top and bottom and tape it in place. When you pack for the move, lay it flat.

You can place the decals in between the pages of photo albums during the move or for storage. You may need to wash and dry the back for them to stick well the next time. Good luck, L.

I would try putting them inbetween wax paper. ANd see if that works? I am not so sure they will restick....or tehy may a little but they may not look so great. If I were you I would just get some new ones...it probably won' tbe worth the headache to take them down and pack them and all that fun stuff.

I would just go to the store and pick up a roll of contact paper. Then put them on it and roll it back up again for easy travel. But be sure to put them where they will be unpacked as one of the first things so you can get them unrolled. If you roll them they don't necessarily have to stick to what you put it on. They can be secured with just the roll and an elastic band. Simple and easy.
