I've been trying to come up with some fun things to do for my kids this coming Friday which will be 11/11/11 but I'm coming up empty! I'm wondering if any of you have any great ideas? I did think that we could eat foods that make "ones" like carrot sticks or things like that but pretty minimal really. I do realize it is also Veteran's Day but since this is a unique Veteran's Day I thought it might be fun to do something al ittle different. Let's get some brainstorming going!

Well I am due any day now and I think it would be cool to deliver on 11/11/11, but at this point, going into labor right now would be awesome!!!

I don't do that type of holiday, but when I was teaching, I celebrated "Pi" day (3/14 every year). I actually brought in some of those mini-pies for the kids. I also did "Square Root Day" which falls on 3/3/09, 4/4/16, 5/5/25, etc. :)

Um wow, I never even thought of that.
I just thought of it being Veteran's Day.
What a brain fart.

We always go and visit my late Dad, at the veteran's cemetery.

Ah I wish.
We will be at church setting up the yard sale for charities.
My oldest daughter will be in school.
But if I can't get her a tour at one of the colleges she wants on Tuesday we may forgo yard sale and go on Friday.
OH and for all military veterans, there are a bunch of freebies that weekend.
Subway, Chili's, Applebees, So we will be having dinner where hubby can eat free. .

I bet there are a lot of weddings planned for that day, it is a pretty cool set of numbers. Being born on 11/11/11 will be pretty cool too.
I have no plans except to call my grandpa and my sons to tell them thanks for doing what they did militarily. I might even have that day off, I havent thought that far ahead. If I dont have it off I think I will ask for it and just might buy 11 lottery tickets for the heck of it....at 11:00 of course.

Thank you to all of our Veterans!
A flag cake?
Eat brunch at 11am.
Buy a Lottery ticket for good luck?
Call a veteran you know to thank them?
Eat red, white & blue foods?
It's November so how about a pre-Thanksgiving dinner: mini pecan pies,
Rotisserie chicken, veggies, dinner rolls?

It's my daughter's 14th birthday and she's having friends over to spend the night. I like the ideas here about eating 11 things (thanks Carrie T!) and a flag cake. I think I'll do both of those things, even if she is a little too old for that stuff. She and her friends will think it's funny. I'll also call her grandpa that day -- he's a veteran -- and a couple other vets I know, and thank them for their service.

My husband's cousin is getting married that day. Nothing wrong with that, but they are having a reception FIRST at 6:30pm, FOLLOWED by the ceremony at 11pm! I don't understand why not at 11am?? They have kids and by that time, they will be asleep. I don't get it.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but do you all have corduroy to wear? All the ones next to each other look like corduroy.

No, we aren't doing anything out of the ordinary. Maybe, I'll do something next year...on 12/12/12.

We don't really do anything to celebrate Veteran's Day. Not to say we aren't incredibly thankful for our servicemen and their family's. There just isn't anything going on in our city.

Well schools are closed, hubby and I are off of work, but the daycare of open!! So the kids are going there and we are going to do some Christmast shopping. We will do something nice as a family in the evening, because I come from a long line of military men (great grandfather, grandfather, dad, brother, husband, and more) and we will certainly celebrate with them. My kids know who veteran's are and why it is an important day. So that will be our focus. I'm sure my sitter will come up with some great activity for the kids...but I won't know until after we pick them up :).

We're doing a big birthday party for my son, although his birthday is actually on the 15th. School is out and I wasn't able to arrange the party for Saturday, so it's 11/11/11 instead. The date really stuck out when I generated the party invites.

It's also Veteran's Day, so maybe I'll give out some little flags along with the gift bags, in honor of the day. I don't really have anything special planned for all those 11s, though!

How about eating 11 M&Ms and 11french fries and 11 pieces of pasta for dinner. I don't know...but I like your idea of doing something fun to celebrate. My son would really be into that! He is very excited for 11/11/11.
