Planning a Halloween/Birthday Party for Daughter

My daughter is turning 8 on November 8th and just told me she'd like to have a Halloween-themed party. She loves Halloween and spooky but fun costumes, games, etc. Having the party before Halloween isn't really an option (not enough time.) So I thought I'd just take advantage of the after-Halloween sales and still give her the spooky birthday party that she wants. I'm just having trouble getting started, I guess. Has anyone had a Halloween party for this age group (she'll probably invite 8 or 9 children) and what kinds of games/treats went over well? Any and all suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance!

I just did one this weekend. The kids that age seemed to enjoy the pumpkin decorating (we did stickers and markers because there were younger kids) and the mummy wrap with toilet paper. We also did Trick or Treat where they chose a paper out of a pumpkin bucket that either said "treat" or told them to do a specific trick. All the kids under 6 yrs old were too shy to do the tricks. The older kids had fun and actually did some pretty entertaining things. The best tricks were the ones where they got to make up their own. I hope you have a great party!

A friend of mine found a bubble/fog machine (if you can find a great deal after Halloween, that sounds like tons of fun!) It blows bubbles that have fog in them. The solution lasts for 4 hours.
Kids down the street threw a Halloween party last year-they had apple bobbing, served eyeball punch (peeled grapes in red punch), gave party favors, had a best costume contest, had a strobe light & creepy music.
Since Halloween will just be over & they'll have tons of candy already, what about decorating apples? You supply the apples & decorations (caramel, chocolate shell, chopped nuts-check for allergies w/parents!, mini M&Ms, smashed candy bar pieces, sprinkles) & they supply creativity. Better than sending them home w/more candy! You could look around for a themed pinata (about $20 regularly) & fill it w/creepy goodies (squishy eyeballs, spider rings, Halloween fruit snacks if you can find them-but more goodies than food) & send them home w/a decorated paper bag w/their goodies inside.

For HALLOWEEN Parties we have done games like pin the wart on the witch,(like pin the tail on the donkey but with putting the wart on the witches nose.) A cake walk can be fun with spooky music or even musical chairs. Let them all decorate their own cookie or cupcake. Other games are ring toss with a hula hoop try to get it over a pumpkin. Build a skeleton relay. I think I got the pattern from family fun. Each team pulls a piece of a cut apart skeleton out of a bag and then has to build it taking turns like a relay. A touch and feel table is also fun, peeled grapes make eyeballs, spaghetti is worms, etc. Homemade rootbeer with the dry ice adds to the spooky affect. You can also add dry ice to any bottled soda.
