I had my first doctors visit yesterday everything went great. I had the normal first prenatal things tested and done. The last thing was an ultrasound to find out how far along I was and if there were only one etc. Well the baby looked beautiful they discovered I had placenta previa which didn't sound so bad and the only thing she said was I might have some bleeding and have to have a c-section which didn't bother me so bad they are done everyday and seem to turn out ok so I left feeling comfortable about having it. I got home and started reading about it on the internet and came to find out it could be pretty serious and there are some really scary things that could happen. Has anyone gone through this and if so could someone fill me in on it? Or if anyone knows anything about it at all that would be greatly appreciated also.

What can I do next?

My midwife experienced placenta previa during her pregnancy and she was told that she would have to think about a c-section. She decided that she would look into all options and ultimately ended up "talking" to her placenta and asking it to move. This may sound a bit bizzare, but it worked! And, after all, we do talk to our babies in utero, why not the placenta that's keeping them company and nourshing them?!

I had a high risk pregnancy OBGYN and he also thought I could possibly have Placenta Previa. As early as you are in your pregnancy please do not take this as "you have it." He said he would keep an eye on it and once I was further along he would be able to tell for sure. Take precautions such as not over doing anything and take care of yourself until you have a "for sure" diagnosis. Once you have the definite then you can move forward with what you need to do at that time. You are doing the right thing by educating yourself.

I was so educated about pregnancy, IVF (which is what we had to do to get pregnant), medical terms, labor and delivery that I was asking questions and knew exactly what everything was before I even went into labor. However, I am not the type of person that gets scared and ends up terrifying myself with what I do learn; I used it as a tool only. Some women learn as much as they can once they are pregnant and before the baby gets here they have so much anxiety thinking anything could happen to them or the baby.

By the way, I ended up not having it and all went great! Good luck.

I had was diagnosed with placenta previa on my first ultrasound. They told me that in the vast majority of cases the placenta will move out of the way. I got a second ultrasound at around 29 weeks, I think, and sure enough it did move. I had a normal delivery at 40 weeks and 4 days and now have a beautiful, healthy 4 month old little girl. I wouldn't worry much about it. I freaked out, too, after reading things on the internet so now I just don't look up stuff like that on the internet.

What I was told was I had a low lying placenta that could cause bleeding, and I was placed on pelvic rest. However I was also told that you are not diagnosed with Placenta Previa until you are further in the pregnancy. Most cases where they do discover that you do have a low lying placenta it will fixed itself. I bled at 16 weeks, and they discovered my placenta was low, so yada yada, at 22 weeks at the next ultra sound they checked and everything was back to normal. Had him at 32 weeks, and the only reason it was a c section was because things we're bad inside there, and they couldn't get to me go on my own, so they had to take him. I wish you luck, I know myself it can be a stressful time. Just remember to breathe and don't stress to much over it. Good luck hun. =)

I had a "low-lying" placenta at my first ultrasound (about 16-18 weeks). The doctor said that it was fairly common and that another ultrasound would be performed at 28 weeks. Most of these problems fix themselves - mine did. Don't worry too much about it now - they should schedule another ultrasound for you the further along you get. Hopefully by then the placenta will have shifted up to where it's supposed to be!

Good luck!

I wouldnt worry too much right now. I too had placenta previa with my 3rd child it was early in my pregnancy 13 weeks. Same thing I had the 1st ultra sound to determine how far along I was and I too was scared because of the spotting and I was also told I couldnt lift anything or have intercourse things like that. My Dr did also assure me that it was very common to have in your 1st trimester and then it moves up allowing a vaginal birth. It did by my 2nd ultra sound it moved and all went well a healty pregnancy and baby girl 8lbs. Just be careful no heavy lifting etc. Congrats and good lick wish you the best of luck.
