I have a 12 yr old son who I had to go pick up today from school and take him to the Dr. He has pink eye in both eyes. My question is, I am currently 17 weeks pregnant...If I were to get the pink eye would it affect me or the pregnancy negatively in any way?? I haven't been pregnant in 10 years so this feels like a 1st pregnancy to me. LOL

What can I do next?

I am an Optometris in the area so I can answer this one. If the red eye is "pink eye" which is a virus. Not all eyes that are red are from "pink eye". However, if it is "pink eye" it can be very contagious so make sure that you wash hands, pillowcases, towels, etc. If you do get it, it will run its course just like a cold would but it will not affect your fetus. Prevention is the best cure.

As long as you don't touch your eyes, or let anything that touches his eyes to touch yours, and wash hands ALOT, you should be fine. Of course, ask your doctor if your concerned, but I wouldn't worry too much. When in doubt, wash anything that came in contact with his eyes and dry as normal. Make sure the other kids wash their hands often and to not touch their eyes.

I got pink eye from my son while I was pregnant with my second son. My regular doctor refused to treat me for fear that the usual perscription might harm the baby and I ended up getting a script from my ob. Pink eye cannont harm the baby but some of the meds used to treat it might. When in doubt check with your ob.

It should not effect your pregnancy but try to avoid getting it. There are different kinds of conjunctivitis-some caused by virus, some by bacteria.
Wash hands often, don't touch your face, wash all towels and bedclothes (pillow cases esp) with hot water.
I wish you well.
