My baby will be 3 in January, I know it a ways a way, but I really don't wanna wait till the last minute because come November either its planned or it wont happen. But I refuse to have a party in my house and I don't really want to do Chuck E Cheese. So I was hoping for some ideas. We dont mind traveling but we don't wanna go too far. All suggestions are appreciated.

Please keep the great answers coming but for those of you who don't know The Please Touch Museum Party's start at around $700.00 for non-member and that's a bit outta budget. But I will be looking into a lot of the other suggestions. Thanks again, and please keep the ideas coming!

What can I do next?

There have been some great suggestions here. I run a website that you could check out http://www.playgroundbuzz.com. It is a directory of fun kid venues in the Philadelphia area, and just about everyone offers birthday packages - from zoos and art centers to libraries and museums. Also take a look at the "Classes for Kids" tab - if you child has interest in art, sports, music or anything else, most of the sites will provide party information as well. You could search on your zip code under "Activities Search" tab to find some venues in your neighborhood. Good luck!

A friend's dad lived in an apartment with an indoor pool and rec room, and they had a party there, if you know anyone with facilities (a lot of large apartment complexes around Philly seem to have them). Churches have space too. There's also that Please Touch Museum out in Fairmount Park, they have tons of space, and may have suggestions for you as well.

The Smith Memorial Playhouse in Fairmount Park would be a great birthday spot. Last time I was there in the winter there was a birthday party going on and the kids were having a great time. Lots to do there.

One of my son's friend's family was short on cash for his Dec. birthday, so they asked him what kind of activity he would like to do with the family. He really wanted to go sledding/tubing. They planned the family birthday activity for the family and it grew to include his friends. They were only gone for about half an hour, and all had such a great time! Who would've known you could do this without Chuckee Cheeses help!!??

You could play snow games in the park with your baby and friends, then you could open presents and have cake and ice cream at McDonalds?

Another really fun idea I have done with the kids, is take them to the local YMCA to play in the kiddie's pool. Check and see what your YMCA has available... some have a small deli with tables and chairs where you might be able to arrange the cake, ice cream and present opening....

Good luck, and have a great party!!! Oh! and be sure to post how the party went :)
