Has anyone ever been on phentermine (generic for adipex-p)? If so, how did it work for you? I am not by any means obese, which is what you see mostly online about these meds. I am about 185lb, tall - 5ft 10in but I have struggled with my weight for some time. I could probably stand to lose about 15-20lb - not a considerable amount.. I will lose a few lbs and gain it right back, and QUICK! I always feel so bloated, it's awful. I try and try to lose and can't. I went to the Dr. yesterday and he gave me the phentermine perscription. He is testing my thyroid as hypothyroid does run in my family and he believes that this is the problem with the multiple symptoms I have. He gave me a prescription for (Adipex-p) but I got the generic Phentermine to help me jump start my metabolism and see what it does for me. Today is day 2 for me... I have been jittery and a L. dizzy this morning and yesterday morning. Lastnight, I was up every hour. Insomnia seems to be a reported side effect however, it should only be an issue if you take it late in the day (which I don't). I am hoping I can sleep tonight. Weird thing is, though I got a crappy night sleep, I feel great today - not tired at all - I actually have alot of energy. Anyway, just wanted to check with all of you mama's out there and see if anyone has had this before and what your experience was like.

~ Thanks in advance ~ :)

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice and info on phentermine/adipex-p. I started taking it in July and I have lost 15lbs so far. I feel so much better! Stops up the plumbing at times but it's nothing a L. tea or veggies won't take care of. :-o All in all, it's working for me. I need to add more workouts into my daily routine but I have just started adding that in. I actually have the energy to work out now which is GREAT!

Thanks again..

I hated that. It made me feel like my heart was gonna leap out of my chest. I felt really weird and stopped taking it. Be careful with that stuff mama!

Is it a prescription? I wouldn't take any of those over the counter 'metabolism boosters'... my very first room mate was taking all sorts of stuff like that, like you, to jump start her metabolism and, like you, got jittery, light headed, and couldn't sleep... and while she was following the labels, she had a heart attack at 28 FROM THOSE MEDS!! Be really careful. If it's a prescription, call your doc and let them know, maybe they can lower the dosage.

Best wishes!

It's a miracle drug. I loved it and lost a lot of weight, but it was only meant as a quick boost to get you on track, so dr will only let you have it for 90 days. The reason you couldn't sleep and you feel energized today is because it's speed! Take it early in the morning and you should be full of pep and not hungry at all the rest of the day. The idea is for you to take this 3 months that you have plenty of energy and aren't hungry and use it to build a new routine and new habits. Get an excercise routine going. Get a healthy diet in place. You aren't starving all the time, so, no need to scarf down whatever is in front of you. You can take your time and decide what a healthy option will be. At the end of the 3 months, you are supposed to have a healthier lifestyle and continue with the good habits you've built. btw, if you dont like them - I'll take em!

I have taken Phentermine. I was a L. jittery the first few days, but that wore off. I had to MAKE myself eat. I would literally forget to eat then at about 4pm, wonder why I felt so sick to my stomach and shaky...duh, I hadn't eaten all day! So as long as I made myself eat SOMETHING, I was great!! I had more energy than I ever had...even though I too, could not sleep. I ended up losing about 70 pounds in about 4 1/2 months. Now I will warn you, I did gain back about 25 of those pounds, but over the course of about a year (but that was probably due to depression...which is all better now!). So I say, if you follow your doctor's instructions, go with phentermine! It was great for me!!

Hello,

I been on the same meds, the same symptoms but the more I stayed on them the more my body and mind got use to them. I needed to lose some pounds, so I took the meds early am and also got the vit b12 shot for energy. I was working the night shift, sleeping during the day and going to the gym. I lost nearly 20-30 pounds in as L. as 30 days. My weight kept falling off and falling off fast because I was doing aerobics just about twice a day.

After a while, I took mself off the meds because I started to lose too many pounds. It works if you take it well and do some type of exercise, it can help you lose faster.

If you get off the meds, continue to expercise so that you will continue to fulfill your goals of weight loss.

Split the pill in half until your body is a L. more tolerant. That's what I did. Also a L. benadryl will help until you get in a better sleep pattern.

Hi, I started seeing a weight loss Dr. about 3 months ago, got the phentermine, b12 injections, (lipoden for the first month, but couldn't afford to continue it) I only felt jittery the first day taking it, after that I am not even always sure that I feel it at all, they upped my dose because I still had serious cravings, but that said the instructions were to log into Atkins.com and set up a profile ( they send some free stuff to you) and use the tools and resources on there and follow the program. I followed it religiously for over a month and lost 13 pounds in month 1, 10 pounds in month 2 and am working on 4-5 more right now. If it causes you all of those problems I would consider breaking the pill in half ( supposing you don't have capsules)
or asking the Dr. to down your dosage. May I ask what kind of Dr. you are seeing, as far as I know the phentermine doesn't have anything to do with your metabolism, just acts as an appetite suppressant. Also note that I suggest getting the book "New atkins for a new you" It explains things in more depth and helps you understand what the goals are and how it changes the way that your body uses food for fuel and fat for fuel. It may not be as fast as you want, or you might be a lucky one, what I do know is if you use the tools and resources and follow it faithfully you will see results! Good luck!

I have taken phentermine before and I had the same symptons as you at first then it seemed that I got used to the meds. I did jump start my metabolism and I did feel like I had a lot of energy when taking it. I had to see the Doctor monthly while on it so she sould monitor me and make sure I wasn't having any issues with it.

I started taking Phentermine (37.5 mg tablet) after I struggled for a year to lose the baby weight (diet and exercise alone only seemed to make me gain more). I'm also 5'10", but I gained a ridiculous amount of weight during my pregnancy and was up around 225 when I started the pills. I'm now down around 180 and feeling a million times better.

I'm typically very senstive to stimulants so my doc suggested I take a half a tablet in the morning and the other half mid-day. Breaking up the dose into two smaller doses seems to agree with me. I have had lots more energy and am able to sleep at night (when my son lets me). I should note that I also get a weekly B-complex injection. So, I can't give 100% credit to the phentermine for making me feel so much better, that may be the B shot - but I sure am happy with the weightloss so far.

Good luck to you!

I was on it for a year. I had the same symptoms and then some initially.
Over the course of the year cont. to have jittery feelings, heart palpitations and difficulty sleeping. I lost about 15 lbs. When I got off, gained all of it and then some. I also have hypothyroidism. I would not recommend the drug for any reason.

I am very sensitive to medications so I try to do everything possible naturally. When I use the Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type eating plan and take their supplements I usually drop back to my healthy weight. I am not religious about it but when I start gaining and feeling bad I go back to it. I signed up to promote it yesterday while ordering my supplements. Best of luck to you. http://www.northamericanpharmacal.com/partners/mbeach816.php
