Background: I have taken two pregnancy tests 1) two days before my expected period Nd 2) the second on the day of my expected period. Both came back negative. My period is only a day late and I'm sure it will be here shortly. The thing is, I feel pregnant. I had a baby 13 months ago and some I am experiencing some pregnancy symptoms. I am thinking it must be in my head. I went of the pill last month and we figured we would see what happens. Has this ever happened to anyone?

What can I do next?

It could be a little early to register on the home test kits. Try again after you're at least a week late on your period.

I know the feeling. I had that happen to me for years, just before my period arrived I'd be sure I was pregnant. Of course at that time I was hoping to be pregnant, so it was a big disappointment. I think the way our hormones work is similar in both situations. I have a suggestion - wait until you have actually missed your period until you test again. Good luck!

Hi S.,

Anytime you're concerned about something being "only in your mind," consider hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can help you explore your own subconscious to find the answers to puzzling thoughts, attitudes and behaviors.

The most important thing is to avoid going into distress about it. Observe your feelings and reactions as if from a distance so your body remains out of fight or flight response.

Let me know if I can help.

I once took three home pregnancy tests (even after missing my period) that all indicated I was not pregnant, but it turns out that I was. The hormones or whatever were not strong enough to be detected in the urine. If you suspect you are pregnant, call your doctor and go get your blood tested. In my experience the bood test detected the pregnancy when the home urine tests could not. Best wishes!

Yup, the home tests didn't register early/on time for me either, but I felt pregnant. Try again next week and work on relaxing about it in the mean time. Also, going off the pill can do things to your hormones, so you may just be feeling your body adjusting to ovulating again and be late because of that.
