I hope you all can help. We have gotten a new dog in the house and for the most part he is good. He did have a time when he was sick and vomited on my new carpet. We cleaned the area good, even used the carpet cleaner. When you come in the house we still smell dog. I cleaned the carpet in this area again today and I can still smell a bad smell in this spot. Anyone have any suggestion on what I can use in this area to get rid of the smell. It of course in the room right by the front door. Great greeting for guests.
Thanks in advance for all suggestion.

What can I do next?

Personally I love 2 products...
One is called "Kids and Pets" but may take a few applications. The other is the Woolite Oxyclean Pet solution...either should help out!

Use a product called Perma-Wash made by Zinser. It's a professional product and you will have to buy from a dealer but I love it. The only place I know that carries it is www.IntegrityCoatingsllc.com
good luck :)

The enzyme-based cleaners have always worked well for us for pet stains and odors. You can get a product called Simple Solution from PetSmart, or Bio-Kleen from a health food store. good luck.

Hi, I used to work for a vet and she always recommended a cleaner called "Nature's Miracle". It has enzymes to get rid of the smell. Most pet stores carry it and I think I have even seen it in Wal-Mart. It works great on pet stains (or potty training accidents).

If the stain is gone and it's just the smell, I would cover the area with baking soda and let it sit (this may take several hours). Vacuum it up - if the smell is still there, repeat. Baking soda works wonders on smells!! It won't do anything for a stain, but it WILL take care of smells!

I've found the BEST EVER solution to carpet stains and smells is a cup of hydrogen peroxide, a squirt of dish soap, and a tablespoon of baking soda. Mix together and pour on the spot...you can cover it with a towel or cotton rag, and let evaporate on its own. NO WATER! This works amazingly well, too, for cat urine, which is very, very difficult to get out of carpet.

All the best,

T.

You can go to a commercial cleaning product store and get a product that they use in nursing homes. It's an enzyme used just for this and used most often for treating mattresses in nursing homes. They'll know what I am talking about.

I have used Simple Solution for pet odor, and it works great. I even used it on vomit from my child once. It really works at getting the smell out. Good Luck! And I feel for you about the location of it, because we moved into a house where a huge dog presided, and it left a huge stain where it must have peed that rose back to the surface right in the living room. Only new carpet will replace our problem! I hope the smell comes out!

Nature's Miracle is the best! With two dogs in the house and white carpet, I needed something wonderful. It has taken out all the stains and odors. We have a golden retriever that tends to throw up easily and this definately does the job. You can't go wrong. I buy it at Petco.

My might try dumping a bunch f vinegar on it & letting it sit for awhile. I use vinegar to clean & the smell goes away when it dries. I figure that vinegar smells better than dog barf. My mil has a problem with cat pee that soaked into the carpet padding (next to impossible to remove the smell without removing the padding).
Hope something helps!

God bless!

I am not sure if you have tried this. However, I use baking soda in our cat's litter box and no one smell anything in our apartment. Maybe you could pour the soda on the carpet in the spot it smells and leave over night. Let it soak up the smell. I hope this works for you, otherwise buy this stuff called Odo-ban. It is the best stuff to take the smell and it will also disinfect. I am not sure where you can purchase it in KC. But try Hen House or any other high class grocery store like Schnuck's.
My best to you!! K.

oxiclean works great on that type of stuff, but test it and don't make it too strong as it might fade a little if it's too strong. But it will definitely get the smell and stain out! I add oxiclean to my carpet cleaner also! Gets more dirt out!

S. G,
I would highly recommend using "Host" carpet cleaner. Host is a dry carpet cleaner method and it has the smell of citrus and is natural, unlike other methods. We have 2 dogs, 1 cat, and grandchild living here, so I know all about messes, spills, dogs, cat, grandchild getting sick types of messes! I didn't want to use other products on my carpet since my grandson was just learning how to crawl! You can rent the "Host" machine at any vacuum shop. At Erv's (Olathe) I rented the machine for $20.00 and had it till Monday morning. The box of cleaner (big box cleaned entire home) was around $65.00, they also have smaller boxes of the cleaner. I know this probably sounds expensive, but please take it from me this is really a great carpet cleaner.

I hope that this little bit of information helps you!

Good Luck in finding something,
G. Conrad

We buy Nature's Miracle by the gallon at our house. With 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 kids it works wonders. We even use it in the shampooer when we shampoo the carpets. For heavy odors and stains be sure you follow the directions. They also have a citrus scent that you may like better than the regular.
Good Luck!

S. G, If you have a carpet cleaner that will suck up excess water, OxiClean is great. My son pooped on the floor, not the easy to clean up kind, and OxiClean was the only thing that took the stain and the smell out.

Good Luck, M.

I have used Nature's Miracle to get out really tough smells (even worked on cat pee in my husbands suitcase!). You have to follow the directions - really saturate the entire area and let it dry. That will probably take the smell out if nothing else will. Good luck!

Vinegar neutralizes all smells! The only problem is then you have a vinegar smell to deal with for a couple of days, but after that airs out, I promise - it works!

If you use an enzyme cleaner like the Nature's Miracle, after you apply it to the spot cover it with a trash bag and apply something heavy on it.

This allows the product to fully work before it dries.

I know this stuff works! Go to www.marketamerica.com/rndirby and order the Pet Magic. It is enzyme-based, literally eats the particles causing the odor, is gentle and safe to be on furniture, carpets, etc. There is a formula for baby use too called Nursery Magic. VERY GOOD!

You didn't mention if you have a carpet cleaner, if you do I would put vinegar in as the cleaning solution instead of cleaning solution...The vinegar will neutralize the odor and the water will draw it back out of the carpet. You can also sprinkle baking soda on the carpet when it is wet and vacuum it up after it dries. This should do the trick. Don't put the baking soda in the carpet cleaner b/c my experience with putting dried products like that or Oxyclean in it equals a permanent jamming and damage to the machine. BTW- instead of using the regular carpet cleaners I buy the Oxyclean spray in the laundry section and use it instead...my carpets look stellar! (BTW- we have a dog too).
