Does anyone have any experience with PTI- Personal Training Institute? I am thinking of starting training there in Bellmore, but it is a lot of $ and I want to do all the research I can. I am looking to get on a healthy eating plan as well as lose weight and tone up. It seems great, but I don't know. Any experiences good or bad?

What can I do next?

Thanks for posting this, I'm curious, too.. I did a free session this summer, and I really liked it, the trainer was awesome, but their rates... YIKES..

But I could really see that it would be a good thing for me b/c I tend to push myself over the limit, get injured & discouraged, then quit entirely. I just wish they'd cut down their rates a bit and then maybe I could supplement by jogging or doing free weights on my own a couple of times a week. Or even if they'd have a more reasonable rate for a 3-month trial or something. It's such a huge financial commitment for us at this point, I just can't do it yet.

I did ask specifically about what the policy is about your membership if you get pregnant, and the trainer told me a lot of pregnant women work out there on a modified plan through most of their pregnancy, but if there is any problem, they'll suspend your membership at no cost to you until you can get back to working out on a regular basis.

I was a member of PTI about 5 years ago and LOVED it! I had an awesome trainer who unfortunately moved out west. There are however sevaral factors to consider. For one, you will have a personal trainer and sometimes you need to try a few out before you feel comfortable with one. Not all trainers know enough. Some are fairly new and inexperienced and others have history yet their experience lacks.

Also, you must be dedicated. They will train you for 1/2 hr. and you must put in time for cardio. They wll also be sure to check your body fat and circumference and you have the option of having a nutritionist assist you.

Please note that I am an Exercise Physiologist and Physical Educator as well as amateur athlete and have extensive background with what works and doesn't work. Your food intake/nutrition is the key to any change you are looking to make physically.

If you are someone who worked out fairly regularly prior to joining this club, then you should have an idea of how many days/week are suitable for you. If intense exercise has not been a part of your life for some time you may have to feel that out.

I worked out 2x/week for several months. At this point in my life, after knee surgery and limited exercise, I would go for at least 3x/week and then judge if I needed more.

The expense at PTI will only be worth it if you are commited and compatable with a trainer/staff. There are other PTI's on the island, so don't be discouraged if you don't find a match where you are. I say test it out for at least a month.

All the best! To a helathy and fit you!

U could try Curves...A lot of people say it is not challenging for them but, it worked for me. Half hour work out. It is almost like u have r own personal trainer. Off N bellmore road in east meadow. I had lost a lot of inches from curves. Look on website Curvesforwoman.com I had to stop because I have no one to watch my 10 month old. My hubby works different hours so I had to stop. Barb G

Hi M.,

Congrats on your new arrival.

I did belong to PTI quite a while ago. Yes, it's expensive. I joined for very specific training purposes/time period in Centerport, and really liked all the trainers and the program.

Now, I also really like the Ultimate Fitness Gym in Northport - very thorough, friendly, and holistic.
