Hi my name is A. and I was wondering if anyone knows if it is safe to get permanent eyeliner done while I'm pregnant. I am 7 months along now and I can wait until the baby is born but I just won't have as much time then. Any help or advice is appreciated!

What can I do next?

I know they won't do tattoos while you are pregnant, and since it's the same principle, I would imagine you will have to wait for make up as well. I think the reason is that there is a greater chance of infection while pregnant because of the increased amount of blood.

I think it really depends on the ink they use. Check with the Artist/consultant you're thinking of using. Make sure they are regulated by your state or local health department for cleanliness and health protocols despite the date of the procedure.

I'm really thinking the inks and risk of infection are too great right now but I really don't know.

I imagine the place you are considering would know what regulations have been passed for this. I don't really know. But when one of my teeth broke during pregnancy they would only put a temporary on it. They wouldn't do anymore because they wouldn't even do an X-Ray then for something they considered could wait.

Permanant eyeliner is the same as a tattoo. You aren't supposed to get tattoos during pregnancy, because your body is giving all it has to the pregnancy, and if you were to get an infection, your body wouldn't be able to fight it as well. You should def wait till after you have the baby. I would think the place were you are wanting to get it done would not let you since you're pregnant... I would def consult them as well as your OB to be on the safe side...

NO NO NO...The permanent eyeliner is a tattoo and those are a huge NO NO during pregnancy. If at all don't do it for your childs sake.

dear ashley, darlin' please don't get the permenant eyeliner. i know 3 women who got it and now regret it. it makes them look very harsh. there is no way to soften the look that makes it look more natural. please think long and h*** o* this first. after all how much time does it take to put eyeliner on?

Permanent makeup? It may seem like a time saver now, but think of those old men you see, ya know, the ones with tattoos all over, the faded ones that have turned kind of bluish. Now imagine that, but on your face. It is PERMANENT if you dont like it or want to change it you cant get rid of it without major scarring.

Permanant eyeliner is considered a tattoo, and I don't know this for sure, but aren't tattoos a no-no during pregnancy?

I found the following on BabySource.com:
If you're considering permanent cosmetics, it's better to wait until after your baby is born, says Kristanne Matzek, PhD, of the American Institute of Permanent Color Technology in Tustin, California. "There's no data out there to indicate one way or the other [whether permanent cosmetics are safe]," says Dr. Matzek. "So our industry does not endorse [pregnant women having permanent makeup applied]." The good news is that permanent cosmetics are fine for new moms, even if you're breastfeeding, adds Dr. Matzek. So while you do have to wait, you don't have to wait long.

I got my eyebrows done when I was 8 months pregnant. I made sure it was ok to do it when I was pregnant. I wouldn't worry about it, just take care of it like you are supposed to. I don't know about the eyeliner, but my eyebrows were fine to get done. My son is now a very smart and healthy three year old. Good luck!
