So What Happened?

My husband & I decided to pay to do the 'get to know you' visit. ($50) with Dr. Lai @ the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Dublin. (The Dr.s there are PPO providers & it is 1 exit from our home)
We met her yesterday afternoon. We were both very impressed with the facility & like her stance on not overmedicating with less prescribed antibiotics. She is also willing to support us on whatever decisions we make regarding the newborn norms they do with the test/drops/shots & vaccines. She will share her opinion which is pro vacc.s but she won't hold it against us if we choose to spread them out or hold off or not do some of them. That is important to us. We wanted to make sure we chose a Dr. that would allow for our questioning every step of the way before choosing to make a decision for our child. (We've had to learn to take our medical health into our own hands, unfortunately due to other Dr.'s that we didn't question & we ended up suffering from not being an informed consumer...)
SO we decided she will be the one. Thanks to all of you who shared your experience with her or the Palo Alto med. fnd. facility, all of the Dr.'s at that practice have the advanced degrees so I am secure knowing if we have to see someone else, they will be highly educated & it sounds like there is more likeness among them. :)

Hi J.,

My daughter has been going to Dr. Tracy Trotter (male) with San Ramon Valley Pediatriacs since she was born. He was recommended by my OB/GYN. The whole practice is great. They are very responsive, get her in quickly if she is sick and take the time to explain things to new parents. I couldn't say enough good things about the practice. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hi J.,

Congratulations on your baby girl!! How wonderful!
I was so thrilled when we had our Rachel (she's 3 1/2 now and the time has just flown by).

I would highly recommend the Palo Alto Medical Group that is actually located just over into Dublin, right where Santa Rita turns to Tassajara Road...our pediatrician is Dr. Margaret Fry (see my review here on Mamasource!) and there are several other good ones as well. We have been with Dr Fry since not long after Rachel's birth, and followed her when she moved from Livermore/Pleasanton Pediatrics to the Palo Alto Medical Group. Incidentally, I recommend Palo Alto Med far above Lv/Pls - some of the support staff at Liv/Pls were very snippy and unhelpful on the phone and in person...I have no patience for such unprofessional behaviors. Maybe it's improved by now, but they were having some ongoing issues with that for the years we were there (even did customer surveys to try and get input for changes etc.).

I know you didn't ask about this, but I wanted to share a couple of things I WISH someone had told me or I had read about in my extensive birth preparations. I had to have an emergency C (not fun) and I'm not sure if that made a difference over a planned one (though from my friends' experiences I'd say not) so I hope you will have a smoother recovery time of it than I did. It can delay milk onset (it definitely did for us and we were not warned of this ahead of time) so if I were you I'd start pumping right around the time you have planned the C-section and get your milk going well. If you do get milk right away you can freeze it and save it to give your baby! :)

Also having a C exacerbates the possibility of PPD (which I was also not warned about and it hit me like a ton of bricks) so please be prepared for this possibility - I battled it out for about 6 weeks and then at my checkup the doctor suggested Zoloft in a small dosage to help me regain normal chemical balance...I hesitantly tried it and after a couple of months I was able to wean off it and have been fine ever since.

My baby was very big and healthy, no problems there :) and after some initial difficulties she nursed like a champ and it was great!! By 3 months she was EBF which was lovely (we had been told to supplement some at first, which was a pain, and I now think it was a mistake to do even as long as we did).

Best of luck with your birth and with deciding on a ped for your precious baby girl! What a joyful time!!

Blessings,

S. M.

Hi J.,

I recommend the pediatricians at San Ramon Valley Primary Care (www.srvpc.com)
My daughter sees Dr Obrinsky, who is wonderful, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

If you're interested, contact their office to see if they have any open house before you deliver. You'll have the chance to meet the doctors, see their facility and get a better feel for whether they're a match for you.

The experience I have had with Dr Obrinsky in my daughter's first year has been awesome. I have never felt rushed, all of my questions are answered throughly, I'm educated on milestones, health and care. Dr Obrinsky is the father of three. Not only does he love his work, but he has practical application!
At 6 months, my daughter was diagnosed with a rare bone infection, a result of a very bad cold and ear infection. Dr Obrinsky caught it early and got her to the right folks at Oakland Children's Hospital. This was something serious, but easily treatable because he had such a good eye for it. The ENT specialist at Oakland's complimented Dr Obrinsky for his diagnosis and quick response for something that is quite rare now.

They're worth checking out.

All the best to you!

I take my 3 year old son to Tri-Valley Pediatrics in Pleasanton. They are available after hours and on Saturdays as well for sick visits. I find that they are always able to squeeze us in and the staff is fairly friendly. Also, there's a registered nurse available by phone (we called once at 3 a.m. when my child had a high fever). Their website is http://www.trivalleypediatrics.yourmd.com/ They have 4 doctors available although my son has taken a liking to Dr. Lionel Herrera.
CONGRATULATIONS & GOOD LUCK!!!

On Saturday they have office hours in Pleasanton because kids always seem to come down with something Saturday morning. I highly recommend Dr. Flanzbaum. He is terrific with the kids and with parents. The office has many Dr. to choose from. I never experienced a problem getting in for a same day appt.

I delivered my second child at Valley Care via c-section and they were there daily because they work righ near the hospital. It saddened me to have to leave the group when we had to switch medical coverage. Congratulations to you and best of luck with your search and delivery.

My suggestion would be Bayside Pediatrics, They have several GREAT, knowledgable and wonderful doctors. Even though you can see the same doctor they have the availability if needed when your child is sick. They are open on Saturdays and have advice RN that can take your message. They also have nurses that specialize in lactation if you are interested in breast feeding. You should definitly go by the office and meet the staff and doctors, They will let you do that. I love them and have been using them for both my children and have been very happy. I also used to work there when I was pregnant with my first child. They are great and the nurses in both facilities, Pleasanton office and Livermore office are awesome. IF you need names or further info feel free to email me. THanks and goodluck, and CONGRATULATIONS

My son (8 mo.) and daughter (3.5 yrs) see Dr. Johnette Leikham at Livermore Pleasanton Pediatrics. www.livermorepleasantonpeds.com

My kids have seen several of the other doctors there (Chiong, Basi, Lembach & Smith) and I like her the best. Dr. Leikham has the right blend of experience, confidence, and personability. I enjoy chatting with her too. They other doctors I mentioned aren't bad, I just prefer her.

I take both of my girls ages 4 1/2 and 9 months to Bayside Pediatrics. I have been to the Livermore, Pleasanton and San Ramon offices and they are all great. They are very easy to get a hold of and when the kids are sick they get you in and out quickly.

Hi J.

I take my daughter to Bayside Pediatrics. We see Dr. Weiss-Ishai. She is wonderful and so sweet to us. She really listens to us and takes time to talk about all the different phases of development. We go to the Pleasanton office and after my daughter was born, we had problems breastfeeding. Luckily Bayside has a lactation consultant on staff so it was covered by my insurance, we saw her a few times and she really made a difference in our ability to breastfeed.

Since you love your OB, do you mind sharing who it is? I am looking for a new OB in the Pleasanton/Dublin area.

I go to the Livermore/Pleasanton Pediatrics Group. They have offices in Livermore and Pleasanton. Their phone number is ###-###-####. They have great doctors and were able to diagnose some rare items with my kids. I would recommend any of the doctors that work in that group. They literally saved my kids' lives.

Don't go to the pediatrician by stoneridge drive. I forgot the name of the place, but they are not very good. I would recommend Palo Alto Medical Foundation off of Santa Rita in Dublin. They are really good. So many moms changed to Palo Alto recently.
