Pediatric Dentist in Plainfield Area

My 18 month old son needs to see a pediatric dentist and the ones that have been referred to me are not in my network. He has a line on the gumline of his bottom teeth that looks dirty so I'm hoping he just needs to start regular cleanings a little earlier than most. We have MetLife Dental and live in the Plainfield area, although I am willing to drive a ways for a good pediatric dentist! Does anyone have any good recommendations?

What can I do next?

We go to Grove Dental in Bolingbrook right on Boughton Road (west of 53). They have an awesome pediatric side and my kids have been going to them since they were 2 years old.

Hi T., I am sorry I can not refer you to a dentist, but I can tell you NOT to go to Dr. Tom Maurice at Plainfield Pediatrics. My son nearly lost his life due to the dentist not responding quick enough.
My then 5 year old son Troy had oral surgery done in his office and was put under by the company called Mobile Anastetic. During the proceedure my son started spiking a fever, was having trouble breathing,(he has brioncial asthma, but was cleared for surgery) and wasnt responding when they tried waking him up. Dr. Maurice called my pediatrician and she told him to call 911 right away. Dr. Maurice waited 20 minutes after that phone call cause he thought he could handle it. Right before they called 911, the dentist office called me back to the room (I was to wait in the waiting area till after surgery) I could not beleive my eyes, my little guy was breathing so hard I thought he was going to go into cardiac arrest. Come to find out they intabated him wrong which caused him to develope phnemonia. He spent a night in ICU. What happened to my son is not a common thing and I understand that, but what upsets me is the dentist not responding quicker (in those 20 minutes he waited to call 911, my son could have died) The dentist also reassured us he would no longer do oral surgeries in his office, only at the hospital and he would never use Mobile Anestic again, which I found out later is a lie. He only said that to save his butt. There was nothing I could do afterwards because my son didnt die, so the only thing I could do is tell my story and warn people about Dr. Tom Maurice at Plainfield Pediatrics.
Good luck with your search.

Someone on mamasource had recommended Stillwater Dental in Naperville (near rt.59 and 87th street intersection). Our health insurance doesn't cover pediatric dentist so I had to find a good dentist for kids. We just started going to Stillwater and I've been extremely happy. I have a 4 and 6 year old that have asked to go back to the dentist since their first visit there. Hope this helps.

Dr. Nicole Kott is located right across from Yorktown Mall in Lombard. She's not a pediatric dentist per sec, but she's an AMAZING dentist. She has three LOs of her own and my husband and I have been seeing her for 10 yrs. She does take Metlife Dental. Well worth the drive. You'll never have to worry about her taking advantage of you.

We have been very happy with Dr. Kurt Wagner in downtown Naperville (above the Barnes & Noble). Parking is easy in the free parking garage next to the building.

It's a pediatric practice and everyone there is very friendly and nice. Great waiting area for the kids. Usually they have the kids go back by themselves unless they are really young. For my first son's trip, I went back, but after that I stayed out in the waiting area. Then Dr. Wagner comes and talks to you about what he saw, any concerns, etc. I was a little leery about not going back at first, but my son did much better for them when I was not in there. If you want to go back, they will let you. I think he would be worth the drive--not too far from Plainfield. We drive from Oswego.

Hi T.. I have MetLife Dental also and the kids go to Dr. Rita Tamulis-Shea at 3290 Executive Drive, Joliet (it's near Black and Essington) phone ###-###-####. Both kids love going to the dentist. My son even had to have a filling last summer and still loves going to the dentist. The only insurance "issue" I've had is that the insurance only covers one flouride treatment per year and the dentist gives them one at each visit (2/year) so I pay out of pocket for the second one ($38). You could refuse the second treatment if that's an issue for you.
