Our pediatric dentist is Craig Hollander of Pediatric Dentistry of Sunset Hills. He came highly recommended by several of my friends. Last year he was rated the #1 Pediatric Dentist in St. Louis and after one visit we liked him very much. However, recently when I was referring him to a new mom, I explained that the parents are not allowed to go in with the child for the exam. My friend was appalled at this and explained she would never go to such a doctor. My own dentist has the same policy for children at his office. Is this an unusual request from a dentist? Would anyone like to refer this doctor as well?

My daughter goes to that same office. At first it bothered me but I came to realize it's easier for them to get their job done and it prepares our child for times when we cannot be there. I do not lie to her and tell her it will never hurt because it can hurt. I'm very honest with her and tell her it's part of life and so far she has accepted that. I think they might have the right idea. I think it may be more that the parents have a hard time letting go, which I understand. I do think they are expensive but I am pleased with them overall so yes I recommend them.

This seems very unusual. I took my daughter (now 11) to Dr. Aurelia Dunegan until she was 6, and I was always allowed to go in with her, sit next to her, etc.

Now, even with my daughter going to a regular dentist, I am permitted to be in the exam room with her if she or I request.

That seems really odd, especially for a pediatric dentist!

My two daughters(9 yrs and 6yrs) go to Dr. Homer Sedighi in Chesterfield. My girls have been going to him for the past 3 or for years. In fact we just had a visit this past Saturday. We always go in with them during their visits. My girls feel more at ease with myself or my husband there. I can't imagine not going in, but I understand there are different situations. I would be upset if I wasn't ALLOWED to go in though.

Initially I'd be put off but sometimes kids do better without the parents around. If you are comfortable with him and there is a female tech in the room...and your child feels OK without you...I'd give it a shot. You can't beat a good dentist. At what age does he allow the parents in the room?

I am a nanny and the mom was a pediatrician and sent her 5 year old to Dr. Hollander and they know some of the best pediatric specialist in the city. That says enough to me. Every mother will have different opinions on what they want for their own children. If you feel comfortable sending your child there and you like the doctor keep recommending him.
