You should consider one of the doctors at Pediatric Associates of the Northwest on Mercantile Drive in Lake Oswego. I take my son to see Dr. Rosenbloom, and one of my co-workers takes their boys to see Dr. Schunk. My son is only a month old, so I can't provide a ton of feedback - but my experience so far has been great.

I went to The Children's Clinic as a child and now I take my children there. We use Dr. Dan Gleason and love him. We have liked everyone we have seen. The entire office is very responsive when you call with questions and I really like the advice nurse. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

We also moved from CA (2002) and I researched (including interviewed) quite a few OBGYNs and PEDs before landing on my choices. We absolutely love Dr. Gopal at Pediatric Associates of the Northwest. This is the practice where Dr. Jack Schunk is (he is almost always rated #1 Pediatrician in the Portland Best Doctor's surveys). The practice has an office in LO, as well as one in NW Portland. I have been to both locations. I have been very happy with our doctor - she is a mom of 3 herself, wonderful way with the kids and parents (warm, attentive, funny, etc), full of common sense as well as medical expertise, and has superb credentials.

When she has been unavailable herself (e.g., off hours, maternity leave, etc), I have been very pleased with the other doctors in the practice. The best thing is that you can expect great follow up to your calls when you kid is sick in the middle of the night. No matter how late or how many questions or how many times you call them, I have felt that they are there for us.

Here is the link for the Doctors: ttp://www.portlandpediatric.com/providers.php

As for hospitals - I think your choice depends on your needs as they will likely differ (Delivery? Heart surgery? Emergency Room?). For example for delivery we chose Providence St Vincent's over Good Sam primarily because it has an on-site NICU; whereas Good Sam has neither an ICU or NICU and would need to transport to St.V's in case of serious delivery/post-partum complications. The delivery rooms aren't as plush as Good Sam (and they change the room post-partum), but I prioritized differently. I had great nurses, and the rooms were just fine.

But, if you are looking for Neurosurgery expertise for example, you would likely go to OHSU. I would say that your primary physician or OBGYN will end up steering you along with any research you do.

Hope that helps.

We have been using Olsen Pediatrics in Lake Grove (close to Lake Oswego) on Lower Boones Ferry Rd for 8 years with both of my kids.  All of the doctors are great but we have used Dr. Miller.  their phone number is ###-###-####.After my son had a few issues early in life I would highly recommend Legacy Emanual Hospital, they have a fantastic pediatric unit as well as a pediatric ER just for the kids. All of the doctors and nurses work with kids so they know how to handle them.  It's not the closest hospital to me but it's worth the drive!Welcome to Oregon, we transplanted here 10 years ago from Hawaii and love it even though it rains!

Pediatric Associates of the NW. (the LO office is off of Kruse Way). Dr. Schunk is awesome but my children also have been treated by other Dr's in the practice and I have never met one I didn't like. Some of them work in the LO office more than others.... go to their webpage to get more info on the Dr's and pick one you think would be right for you.

Between the LO office and the Portland office, they are available for appts almost every day of the year, and they also have an excellent 24-hour hotline.

Hi A.,
We have lived in Tualatin for over 10 years now, which is located just minutes south of Lake Oswego. Since then, we've taken our 16 yr old son,12 year old daughter, and now 6 mos old son to The Children's Clinic. We love it there. All of our kids see Dr. Dan Gleason, but ALL the doctors are wonderful and we love the nurses there too. Their hours are super convenient, they have always called us back within 15 minutes of our apt time, and they have evening clinic & a weekend clinic (for urgent care) if needed as well. ###-###-####

The Children's Clinic is located in a brand new office building in the parking lot of Legacy Meridian Park Hospital.

Meridian Park Hospital is conveniently located to Lake Oswego, but for a better choice of hospitals for children I would choose Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital (http://www.legacyhealth.org/body.cfm?id=34) OR Doernbecher's Children's Hospital (http://www.ohsu.edu/health/clinics-and-services/doernbecher/) .

Hope this info helps!

We go to the Children's Clinic in Tualatin (which is a little bit south of Lake Oswego.) We see Dr. Sara Cannon and love her, however I have been really happy with any of the doctors I have seen there.

I don't know much about the hospitals, so I don't really have a reference for that.

Hi A.,

Although I don't have little ones at the moment, my first grandbaby is due in April '09, I did move from California to Tigard back in '02.
The Portland area is wonderful with many great hospitals. The OHSU-Oregon Health & Science University has two childrens hospitals but its a bit of a pain in the *** to get to being on top of a hill and all. St. Vincent Hosipital is a great place and I took my daughter to Sunset Pediatric which is right in the next buliding. Very convenient. Kaiser also has good hospitals and clinics in the area.
I love living here and I hope you will too. Good luck and Welcome!
