My daughter will be 6 in October. We threw her 5th birthday party at Under the Sea in Culver City and after $700 for the party, party favors and food, I just can't justify doing that again. Do any of you moms have any low cost ideas for birthday parties? I have considered doing it at home, but then I do not know what to do with or for the kids. I would love ideas if you have any. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi there! I just went to a birthday party that was in someone's backyard that was fabulous. It was in the evening 7-8:30ish and they had a make your own ice cream sundae bar. They had a couple different types of ice creams & various topping (whipped cream, caramel, chocolate sauce, crushed oreos, gummy worms, cherries, etc.). The kids played and it was just enough time to have fun and the ice cream sundaes were very easy and less expensive than appetizers, a meal AND dessert. I hope your birthday party is a success!

Hi D.,

Have you heard of My Gym? Here is there website http://www.my-gym.com/ the closest one to you is probably Manhattan Beach. They have private parties and it's a load of fun for kids your daughters age. If you don't want the hassle of throwing one at home here's a set up, clean up, and ideas to entertain all in one that they take care of!

Thanks,
M.

Hi D.:

You could create a backyard movie night -- rent a projector, project your daughter's favorite movie onto a wall or white sheet, throw blankets/chairs around the yard, serve popcorn & other fun snacks and let the fun begin. A drive-in movie theater at your own home.

Just so you know, I work for a company that rents projectors (www.projector123.com) and we have helped lots of moms with fun party ideas like the one mentioned above. Many have written and told us what a blast their parties were with a projector. Plus, it is inexpensive at $99/weekend (we ship the projector directly to your home). If interested, check out our site (you should read the testimonial page to see what people have said about the service).

Hope this helps...
