Hi ladies! I'm looking for some fun ideas to liven up my 13 year-old's birthday party in early August. It'll be a fairly simple party with about 13 girls. We'll swim, have pizza and ice cream sundaes, and my daughter loves the game "Apples to Apples." She's not much into "girly" things like manicures and makeup, but loves headbands and collecting stamps! I will have a three week-old baby at the time (approximately), so I'll need to do a lot of pre-planning and make the execution of it simple. Any suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

Hi L.,

Congrats to you!! Whew..6 girls??!! Good for you!! My youngest is also turning 13 this August (5th) and we think that two games are really fun and interactive and the best part...not much work for you!! We love in our house Pictionary (great one for this age to show off their creative side or goofiness) also we love any of the Scene It games. Our family loves the Disney version..if you are not familiar with it, it is a DVD/board trivia game where you look at the Scenes from a movie and answer questions about it. Maybe give the girls a prize for winning. Hope it goes well.

For my daughters 13th birthday we had a slumber party at a very nice hotel. She invited her best friend and along with her 2 sisters we had a very special time. We tried on make up, and set our hair. We ate at the fancy restaurant in the hotel and watched movies. The next morning we had a complementary breakfast, went swimming and then went home happy. The girls still talk about it.

MUSIC:
Karaoke and/or combo DJ to host the party,
to also possible include to "Dance floor games".
Not all DJ's are so saavy to include an all inclusive package,
but I do know a few.

INTERACTIVE INFLATABLE:
Sumo wrestling, Velcro wall, Laser tag, rock climber
are just a few visual, active type ideas and are there all day.

GAMES HOST:
Hula hoop, buddy walkers, stilt walking, tug-of-war, water balloon toss (optional), sack races, old time relays.

THEATRE WORKSHOP for mini "Play":
A coach to come and bring wardrobe, stage props, and have a hands on workshop to write, direct and playout a routine to include participating party attendees to be the stars of the show.

BUDGET TREASURE HUNT (go out on the town):
You mention that your daughter likes Apples to Apples, yet this is a party
and she is a good girl with a good head on her shoulders.

I'm also not sure what your budget is either. Did you want to hire out or
"do it yourself". Another idea is a traveling treasure hunt.
Make a list of "Things to do" and "Photos to take". At the end, this gets
turned into either a scrap book or a DVD of video and photos depending
on who can put what together. The latter is much better to share.

Example:
- Sitting in a chair at a tattoo shop with a big grizzley guy hold
your arm with one hand and a tattoo needle with the other.
- Posing for photos with the entertainers on Hollywood Blvd.
- Running in the fields of the Botanic Gardens.
These were just off the top of my head, but get the picture?

Hope this helps. I'd love to see what other input you get.
Great question BTW.
