I am a SAHM and my husband works his butt off everyday just to bring home enough money for us to struggle. Forget about child care these days I would be working just to pay for it. I have my mother in law who doesn't work but when I have her watch the kids for over an hour she gets over whelmed and is prectically throwing my children at me when I walk in the door. I am a work-aholic and LOVED to work before I had kids but now being a mommy is my full time 24-7 job. I would LOVE to find a part-time job but the only thing that makes sence is a work from home job. I want to make it clear that I am not looking for a get rich quick scam nor a pyrimid sell this worthless product and find ten friends to sell it with you. I am just looking for a a job that will give us a little extra money to help out my husband. Does anyone know of anything or even something that you do that could help me out? Maybe even some ideas of what I could do to make a little extra cash...ps I am a HORRIBLE sales person so making things and trying to sell them is out and I can make great currtains but like I said horrible at selling things. ANy advise would be much apreciated.

What can I do next?

I don't know how well you type, but you could try legal transcribing. I do that on the side at home - nights and weekends. I can take work when I want, and don't take any when I don't want. It's win/win but you have to be able to type at a fairly fast pace and you must have good LISTENING skills - not just hearing, but really LISTENING!

You could watch one or two kids in your home, or you could look for a job evenings and weekends (or whenever your husband is home to watch the kids) so there would be no childcare costs. I had a few friends do this when their kids were small, one worked at Target, the other at Starbucks. Not only did the money help but they actually LIKED getting out of the house on a regular basis.
Even if you find a work from home job you would still need to hire someone to watch your kids while you work, as any legitimate job would take your full, professional attention.
Good luck!

I hear ya! I quit my job a year ago (when I had my second kid) and decided to open an in-home daycare. It can be stressful, and I won't lie, it isn't the ideal solution...BUT, it does allow me to see my beautiful children everyday, earn income, and not have to pay childcare for 2 kids! Plus I get the benefit of allowing my children to learn social skills without having to goto awkward mommy&me events!
Even if you only took on 1 or 2 kids, it's better than nothing

ETA: Not to mention, you get HUGE tax breaks because you can deduct pretty much everything you use for the daycare since it is a business that's run from your home (ie; mortgage, electric bill, water bill, phone, cable, groceries, toys & equipment)...sometimes this can add up to quite a bit!

That all being said...some days I think it would be nice to work very part time OUTSIDE of the house to regain my sanity...but jobs offering decent hours can be hard to find.

Good luck!

ETA: I purposefully crafted my answer to NOT at all be pushy. And again, I do this as a hobby! I will answer your PM in a bit! =)

Honestly, the perfect scenario for you would be to sell Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Thirty One, or any of the direct sales.

I am an attorney. I am NOT a sales person. But I sell Scentsy on the side for FUN. Yes, it is honestly that fun that I do it as a hobby and just happen to make an extra income doing it. You do not have to be good at sales to sell a product like this. Some of the shyest women I know make a good living selling.

I am NOT advocating this because it will benefit me - in fact, it probably hurts me to have more Scentsy reps =) I honestly know what a blessing it could be to someone who wants to earn money but stay home.

Let me give you an example. Last month, I posted on facebook about my current specials, I emailed previous customers, I asked my assistant if she wanted anything, and I gave a basket party to a friend for her to take some samples and order forms to work and gather orders. She then gets half price and free product depending on the amount she sells. I get the commission. All in all, a SUPER easy month of extra money.

Also, I used to do pretty well during law school by going to GAP and similar stores, buying off the clearance rack out of season clothing, then turning around and selling it on ebay months later when the season was in. Try that! That is fun, too!

Let me know if you want more info! And good luck!

When you are out shopping, you can buy off-season kids clothing on clearance and resell them at higher prices on Ebay. For example, you can find a lot of cheap clothing on clearance/sale at Target, The Children's Place, etc. Ebay is pretty easy to set up. You do need to get PayPal account to do it though. The nice thing about this business is that you can do it from home at night when the kids are sleeping. :)

Try hiremymom.com. You have to evaluate all jobs for yourself, and some are just per project, but I have gotten legit jobs there, including my current long term job. They are hard to find and it can be hard to juggle kid + work. You might also want to look at the budget and cut what you can, and do things like clip coupons to bring down other bills.

ETA: the only way this works for me is that 1. I do not have to be on the phone, ever, and 2. I can work weird hours. I can leave to get DD from school, stop for dinner, etc. I also do tech writing work and when I have one of those projects, I am often working well after everyone else is in bed. If you know how to build a website, for example, that is a skill others can use without you being on the phone all day.

And, yes, HMM does require membership fees for access to job listings. I considered it a business expense and IMO it paid for itself when I found jobs. I canceled it when I was comfortable with my long term position. It did autorenew but they quickly refunded my renew when I asked them/canceled my account.

When my husband worked Monday to Friday during the day I got a job as a cashier at the supermarket. I worked evenings and weekends, only about 15 hours a week. It was flexible, so I was able to work more or less if I wanted. The staff discount was a great bonus. Then I started watching a couple of boys from down the street who were the same age as my boys. Then I had built in playmates for my kids. I still have them before and after school. When my kids were bigger I got a job at the Y in the babysitting room. My kids could hang out at the Y while I work, and I get a deal on my family membership.

I was in the same boat a few years ago. My youngest is now 9 - when I was pregnant we decided that I was going to quit and stay home as day care was expensive. From the time she was 2 I tried all kinds of part time jobs from lunch relief at a day care, to vacation coverage postal carrier, to accounting clerk, as long as it was part time and worked for my schedule I tried it. Then I got into direct sales. I went thru 4 different companies, I only did really well with one but my success didnt last that long. Thats something I would never, ever do again or recommend to anyone. Direct sales is tough, carrying around product from party to party became daunting, getting the same friends to keep having a party for you eventually dwindled to nothing, dealing with quotas, as some companies had, was even worse, recruiting friends, etc. I stopped. Tried mystery shopping, thats was a pain in the neck. There are companies like QVC or NBC that look for people to take orders from home. Searching for them is tough as you have to weed out the spam sites.

I started selling on eBay, it was always a hobby for me, I have had an account for 13 years now. Anything that I could sell I did. CDs, Movies, baby clothes, vintage toys, any old product from my direct sales companies, anything that was not bolted to the floor! My husband would say 'do you know where.... is?' I would say I dunno maybe I sold it. Eventually I created a legal business and now I buy things wholesale and sell them retail, I have grown to sell on 5 websites including eBay,Amazon and Facebook! I now have a physical store front. I am here all the time my daughter even gets dropped of at the store after school! I make my own hours and when I leave business stays there. Its taken me a few years to get here so it wont happen over night.

But, the best thing is that you can do it all from home. All you would need to do it make one trip daily to send your products out unless you use a carrier that picks them up from you. When I first started out I would just put it in my mailbox with the flag up. Nowadays I have way to much to put in a mailbox I have to bring it to the post office. You can create your own website and start selling. Just watch it take over, my friend still sells from home... she has lost her garage & part of her house storing stuff lol.

I know a few people that sell over six figures annually and one of them is well into seven figures..thats in the millions lol. That can take some time to reach but it is addicting to me. I am always researching products, listing, packing and shipping, you name it! My goal is to grow to the point where I have a large staff working for me and still bringing in a nice income and staying home!

Being able to pay for our vacation this year is a great perk.

Good luck in your search.

the day care is the best possible option. You take care of kids, your good at it, why not add 1 or 2 more. hiremymom.com charges for yearly and quarterly memberships, so be aware of that. 99.00 for the year and 29.95 for quarterly. It renews the membership automatically until YOU cancell it. My girlfriend and her husband cleaned offices in the early evening when they needed extra cash and she was able to bring the baby along. My other girlfriend got her real estate licence and does this on weekends and early evenings when her husband is home to take over with the kids. Good luck M. T, I'm in the same boat...looking for a job with flexibility due to my youngest.
