Park or Activity near DFW

We have old friends coming through DFW with their two young boys (3 & 5). They have a long layover in the early evening so we are planning on picking them up from the airport and taking them somewhere where the boys will have a chance to run around. We will only have about an hour, so I'm looking for somewhere within about 10 min. from DFW. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your wonderful suggestions. Since it was so cold on Saturday, we took them to Grapevine Mills. The boys were able to run around and ride the carousel and everyone was able to grab a quick snack. Thanks!

The Gaylord Texan is a great place to wander around. The only downside would be paying for parking.

My kids love to look around at the Bass Pro Shop. We often wait there when we pick up relatives at DFW until their flight arrives.

On the south end of the airport, if you exit and go east on 183, there's a McDonalds that has a nice playland. I don't remember the exit name, but you can see it from the highway.

On the north end of the airport is Founders Plaza, an observation area at DFW Airport. http://www.dfwairport.com/visitor/index.php?ctnid=28578. There are picnic tables, a large grassy area where kids can run, some interesting sculptures, etc. You can watch planes take off and land, and hear the control tower talk to the pilots on outdoor speakers.

In addition to Grapevine Mills Mall, Bass Pro is also in the same area. They've got lots of great exhibits for kids, a large aquarium, etc.

Good luck!

The park in Coppell is awesome -- Andy Brown Park East (or is it Central). There is a great playscape, pond, open fields, etc. It's very close to the airport.

I agree with the Grapevine Mills Mall suggestion. It has the Rainforest Cafe, which most kids love. Even if you don't eat there (which you probably won't have time to do), they have the alligator out front, and the gift shop is fun with talking trees, monkeys, and fishtanks. The mall part has lots of wide open spaces for kids to run free, too. Have fun with your friends!
