I was wondering if anyone knows of any good affordable hotels to stay in. Maybe not directly in Paris, this would be ok. I'm wanting to go the 4th of july weekend. I will be kid free thanks to my mother in law and this is the weekend of my b-day and Paris is my dream vacation! So I'm pretty flexible.

What can I do next?

Hi A....

We always try to stay at Americany sort of hotels. We like the whole comfort factor. And I tend to stick with the major chains just because we know what to expect. I just go down my mental list of hotels and do a Google search. I even tried Hotels.com... and expedia.com. Those were helpful because they always had places near the Eiffel Tower and it was nice to have a bunch of place to compare but the price was either too high or if it was affordable the comments said things like... found used condom in the room... door wouldn't lock... no window to outside... Needless to say.. I didn't want to stay at anything scarry or obviously too pricy.

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot in Colombes right outside of Paris. It was super clean and newish feeling with an American sized King sized bed... flat screen tv... still European sized room... but it was very clean and comfortable. We had a car so it was nice that they had a parking garage too. We took public transport to actually get around Paris though. There was a bus stop just a few feet from the front of the hotel. The bus went straight into the train station. We stood around like a bunch of lost tourists for awhile at the train station before I was able to find someone who spoke English. (None of us spoke a word of French.) Then it was like one stop away from the Arc de Triumph. We ended up taking a cab back to the hotel though because we were not looking forward to the whole public transport thing again. We brought our sat-nav along with us and had the address of the hotel bookmarked to show the driver. He thought that was pretty cool. He spoke English but we probably only understood 1 out of every 5 words he said.

Oh... another idea... my friend just took a trip and was able to call the USO for advice on where to stay. They were able to help her find a clean hotel close to everything. The hotel she went to even offered a shuttle to pick them up from the airport.

Good luck... take tons of pictures... and have a great time!! :0)

Check out Hotels.com Search for Paris, France and your dates; you can even look at a map to find the specific location, as well as find the amenities you want!

We have stayed at the Suite hotels both times we went and they are fabulous!! Very modern, clean and very affordable. We paid 180euro for three night!! and it was on the weekend. they have I think 9 locations in Paris. We stayed at the Porte de Montreil. On the weekends just outside the hotel is a huge swap meet. They had everything from Prada purses to antiques! There is a shopping area just around the corner too with a grocery store and McDonalds. Paris food is expensive! There were two subway stops too. Very easy to get into the city. Oh and they have free wireless internet in every room and free movies too! Big bonus when you don't want to spend a lot. It was nice to come back from the city and relax to a movie. (They are all in English too!) Here is the website. www.suitehotels.com
I hope this helps! Oh and most have parking and it cost 8 euro a night. Still very affordable. Can't wait to hear where you decide to stay!

Do you have the European Military Travel Guide? I know a couple of people who have stayed at the facility listed for Paris, can't remember the name. It's not fancy, but it's affordable and very near a train station. If you don't have a copy of the guide, browse through one at the Book Mark. Bet you'll get loads of suggestions! By the way, if you ever are not kid free, the B & B chain of hotels in France is affordable and family friendly. They are not destination hotels by any means, but if you're travelling with kids and need a cheap place to spend the night, they are usually less than 75 euros for a family of four, are all over France, offer breakfast for an additional charge and even take pets for a very small fee.

Try laterooms.com We have always found this website to be useful to book rooms in cities we are unfamiliar with. Also check trip advisor for their hotel reviews. The reviews give a true & honest picture of what the hotel is really like
