Dear S. G.

I am on week 34 with baby # 6. My guess would be that you are in the first stages of labor. With my 3 & 4 babies I was dialated to 7 by my 38th week. Just hang in there and things will really begin to happen soon. Congrats.

I would call the OB, go to the doctor or ER just to make sure. I am a worrier though. I went into labor with my first and had NO IDEA! Got to the hospital a +2 station and needless to say he was out in less than 3 hours. I would rather be safe than sorry! Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS on the baby!!

I believe you are experiencing Braxton Hix contractions...they are not very comfortable, but it's your bodies way of preparing you for the real thing. They will pass. Hope things go great.

I had the spains like you are describing starting at about 34 weeks and they went on until about a couple of days before I went into labor. I think it as just hte baby putting pressure on EVERYTHING! LOL!!! I hope it helps, if you are worried about it though you should call the ob just to make sure...that is what they are there for, right?! Good luck, and congratulations!

I had the same kindof pains when I was pregant and it turned out that I was in labor. I made dinner dropped off a movie and then went to the hospital, i didn't even grab my over night bag because I thought they would just send me home, my pains were irregular and not that intense. But when they hooked me up to the machine, my contractions were 2 1/2 - 3 minutes apart. so I would say go to the hospital, you might have a new member of the family sooner then you think:)

I had a very similar experience when I was pregnant. My baby was very large and I was so worried about similar pain in my abdomen and sides. When I asked the doctor he checked me and I was also dilated to 3 cm. He told me there were two possiblilities, I could be having braxton hick or it could be my tendons stretching. It was very uncomfortable, but it only went on for a week because they enduced me at 38 weeks. It is always safe to call your OB, but just know that your baby grows so much in those last few weeks it will take a huge toll on your body. I hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy your new baby.

I had constant pain with my second son. Sinse you're already dialated to a three, I'd check with the doc again. My sister never had timable pains. They were random and came often. We found out that she is ready to give birth before she has contractions every three minutes. For her it was more like ten, one time. The next might be seven or three. She wasn't exactly three to five minutes apart. I'm a worry wort though so I don't know. I'd feel better if I went back to the doc. Congradulations and Good Luck!!!!!

It definitely wouldn't hurt to call your doctor, you don't want to take any chances and only you doctor will know your body enough to tell you truly what is going on. . .but I did want to say, when you are in labor, you will KNOW. . .it is breathtakingly uncomfortable, until you get your pain killer at the hospital anyway ;)

i was dilated to 3 for 3 weeks with my first and when labor started,, it wasn't what i thought so i didn't know it was labor. kept expecting it to be worst. like micki said,, take your breath away,. mine didn't do that. so don't assume you will know..hahaha. but,, with that being said.. i remember pains like you are describing.. was told ligiments etc..
i would follow your instincts. if you don't feel right about them,, call,, talk to your dr again. even ask to be seen, again, even if it's not time for your next appt. in my book, rather be safe than sorry. because without and ultra sound no one really knows for sure what is going on in there with that little person. communicate your fears. don't feel silly about them. stick with your gut feelings. my view was it's my responsiblity to protect this baby from conception on..i never felt wrong for following my instincts.

Good luck,, hope the baby comes soon! :-)
