Hi Moms,

I was experiencing a tremendous amount of pain the past few days. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a cyst on my ovary and fibroids. Has anyone had to deal with this? Please let me know what worked for you. Do they have anything that can shrink either.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank everyone for their wonderful advice. I went for a follow up ultrasound today and my cyst has dissolved. The fibroid is still there, but they said to keep an eye on it. I have stopped drinking coca cola, and eating chocolate!(hoping this will assist in preventing future cysts) I truly appreciate all the tips and insight you moms shared! I was in a lot of pain and your prayers and knowledge truly helped!!

Hi T.,
I've been fighting that battle since I was 17 years old. My DR. put me on birth control pills and they started to shrink. When they were small enough I had them lasered off. It is very uncomfortable and the cramping is unreal along with the lower back pain...no fun at all.
Try drinking some warm Chammomile tea and use a heating pad for relief...the heating pad I have is one of those homeopathic wraps that is chammomile, mint, and sage with some peppermint that you warm in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time...It helps. I also found some relief in a warm bath lights off and candles.
Most importantly I took lots of Aleve.
Hope this helps.

I've had a couple of cysts on my ovaries at different points in my life. I've never had fibroids but I can tell you ALL about the cyst experiences I've had. The first one they put me on 3 days bed rest and it burst on it's own. The bursting was painful but short lived (maybe one day). The next time I had a cyst it didn't burst it just shrunk on it's own. The third time was the worst one. First they wait it out a month to see if it burst or shrunk on it's own. When it didn't they put me on 10 days of hormones that were supposed to shrink it down. Those didn't work so I was off to surgery. The surgery is not considered "major" surgery. They make small incisions here and there to get it out and recovery is about a week. I'm sorry you have to go through this but let's hope it shrinks on it's own or with a little help from the hormones.

Check out your options. PVA (polyvinyl acholol) is a option for packing these without surgery.

Hi T.,

I have not dealt with the fibroids, but i had an ovairan cyst when I was 19. It ruptured and I did not know. I was in pain and went to my Dads friend who is a doctor. We were in Surgery 2 days later. They removed it and 1/2 of my ovary. I am 31 now...with no problems. I also have a daughter who is 3 now. I dont think they can shrink them...I think that surgery is the better option.

Good Luck.

Hi T.:

I've heard that you should not drink coffee, have chocolate, or anything else with caffeine. You should take vitamin E supplements and take something called Evening Primrose Oil. Also, try to cook using olive oil and not the regular supermarket oils. Go into the internet and look for natural remedies to shrink fibroids. My other advice would be to find a good obgyn. All my best, R.

Try putting castor oil packs over your abdomen. To do this you must take a towel, piece of flannel or large wad of cotton, and saturate it in cold pressed castor oil (you can find this at any health food store like Wild Oats or Whole Foods) Then put over your abdomen and place an electric heating pad on top. To keep the oil from staining your heating pad, place a sheet of saran wrap or a plasic bag in between the oil soaked cloth and the heater. You should lie down with the pack on for 1 hr. to 1½ hrs daily if posble. This is reported to alleviate the pain of fibroids and cysts.

I have also read that taking a teaspoon of black strap molasses and natural apple cider vinegar (it MUST be the one with the 'mother' in it, unfiltered, not the stuff you buy at Publix) 2 times a day is helpful in alleviating pain and possibly help shrink growths.
Do a Google search on these things and you're bound to come up with more information.

T.,

I have not had these exact problems, however I have had my share of female problems. Your best course of action would be to see your Gyno. That is the only way that you are going to get any piece of mind.

Good luck.

Hi T...I have had many cysts on my ovaries over the years. I used to have a lot of pain with them too. Sometimes in bed all day. Many cysts will come and go on their own. It is a good idea to keep a check on them to make sure they go away. Birth Control pills can help control the cysts and shrink them. I had one bad one and had to have it removed surgically. They ended up taking the ovary too. That was 15 years ago. I had my daughter two years after the ovary was removed. My most recent cyst was a few years ago and my DR. put me on the pill and it did shrink away after a few months. Good luck with it! I also have fibroids too. they don't bother me too much. D.
