Hubby and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We are in mid to late 40's and its been eons since we have been out on a real date. Finally found a sitter for my youngest, so thats covered. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions somewhere decent that we can go out to dinner that wont cost us an arm and a leg and maybe a dancing spot (for our age group) or some type of karaoke or something we can have a good time at? We live in Chandler close to Ahwatukee and Tempe.

What can I do next?

It is on 51st street and Elliot. My husband and I have been going there for years. We had our first date there, our rehearsal dinner there, and love it. It is Italian food and so yummy. They have a patio that is nice and have live music on the patio on weekends. I have two little ones so I haven't been on a weekend in some time so you may want to verify the live music. But each time I have been there on a weekend they had live music. They also take reservations.

Congratulations!...and happy anniversary. I don't know where to go dancing but the Landmark Restaurant in Mesa is very good. It's a great special occassion place to eat. I occasionaly see coupons for it but can't remember where. You could try to google for coupons.

I just went to Va Bene (48th and Chandler). The prices are on the higher side, but the food was good. Plus they have a little stage/dance floor and have live music on the weekends. The crowd was definitely more mature (probably because of the prices of the food), and you could make requests for songs (they played a country song per request). It would make a nice date night because you can split a bottle of wine at dinner and dance after dinner without having to drive anywhere.

I have also been to Airia recently. There is a very wide range of ages that go there to dance, but there is a cover and drinks are expensive ($10 each).

CONGRATS on 20 years! Hope you have a wonderful time regardless of what you do.

I would also recommend the Landmark (around $15 a person(maybe more...its been a while)); has an excellent pot roast and salad bar and a very relaxed setting...If you both like chinese the Abacus Inn (around $5-$10 a person) in Ahwatukee is also good; I enjoy their honey chicken when they still had it and their pu pu platter. It is a quiet more intimate setting than some of the big chain restaurants. Cheesecake factory (about $20-$30 a person) in Chandler has some of the best food (love their lettuce wraps, better than P.F. Changs (about $20-$30 a person) in my opinion), but very loud and raucus. I really like the Melting Pot (at least $90 for two plus tip) for special occaisons as it is very intimate with private booths and excellent food, but they are super expensive. Lastly, Tia Rosa's ($12-$17 a person) if you prefer Mexican, Fabulous food but go early to get a table (Val Vista and Mckellips just east on south side of road) (If you still want mexican but at a less visited restaurant Matta's ($10-$15 a person) opened a new not well known restaurant in Mesa Riverview that serves good food). As far as dancing goes....I hate it, so hopefully someone else can help you there :-)

Forgot to add one more....Vincitorino's (not sure if accurate spelling) Affordable Italian food for an intimate setting ($10-$15 per person). It is on the Southeast corner of Mclintock/Elliot in Tempe. If you are a vegetarian try the squash ravioli (excellent) if you are a meatitarian, like myself, they have an excellent cheesesteak and save room for dessert as they have some exotic icecreams (or gelatto...whatever its good) or canolis.
