Hey everyone,

I'm so distressed right now. I found out our preschool at the YMCA at Mt. Trashmore will be closing the 1/2 day program. This worked so well for us because with sending 2 kids (I have 4 year old twins)it's hard financially. With both kids in 3 days a week half day we were spending 435.00 a month. I really don't know what to do at this point. Calling around all I can find is 900.00 or above for both kids. I don't know what to do at this point. I want my kids to be socialized and be ready for school next year (can not go this year because birthday in October).

Does anyone have any suggestions? HELP!

So What Happened?

I really want to thank everyone for the support and all the suggestions. It's because of you that I now have the twins signed up for Mother's Day Out. I'm very impressed with the school, they have been there for 30 years and follow the Va Beach curriculum (sp?). They will also have music and computer classes. Just walking in I could tell how organized and was an actual school atmosphere.

I really think this was a blessing in disguise. I've been a little worried about the amount of actual education the kids have been receiving at the previous location. Now I feel confident they will have the education needed to lead them into kindergarten. I just have to figure out if I should keep them there or let them go into public school once that time comes.

Thank you again so much for your help!

I currently have 2 children enrolled in Courthouse Christian Preschool and Kindergarten 3 days a week from 9:00 to 12:30 for a cost of $370 per month. I would highly recommend this preschool to anyone. They have taught both of my kids a ton of stuff they wouldn't have learned somewhere else.

Hope this is helpful.

My son goes to a great half day preschool called Mother's Day Out preschool and kindergarten. My son has been in their preK program going five days per week for 235 per month. I know that there is a discount for siblings though I am not sure what it is. They go September through May and have five weeks of summer camp. I know that three days per week is cheaper, also. The hours are 930- 1pm with come and play hours from 800-930 with a small fee as well as stay and play til 330 for a small fee if you need to use those options. The school is in Community United Methodist Church on Old Kempsville Rd.Even though it is conducted in a church there is very little to no religious stuff other than an occassional bible story. Hope this helps. If you need any other info please let me know. The phone number is ###-###-####. Also, the preK program has done wonders to prepare my son for entering Kindergarten. They start "homework" in the middle of the school year which is basically a coloring page or something. But it gets them used to the fact that they will have that responsibility. My son is also beginning to really read and I feel that he will be very prepared for kindergarten this coming school year.

Hi R., I'm M. and I live in Chesapeake. My daughter is part of the Early Adventures program. It is in collaboration with the YMCA and it's FREE. Each day she has breakfast and lunch and they have a structured class day. She is picked up by the school bus at 7:20 a.m. and gets back home at 2:30 p.m. Call your local elementary school and see if they offer it.

R.,

I would consider looking into local churches that offer programs...I know there are three near Town Center that have pre-school part time programs. They are usually very reaonsably priced.
